It looks like Home Depot is doing the same thing and calling it the Evolution Supreme SS.
To clarify, this is the description of what is missing in the Prestige:
The Jam-Sensor Circuit senses when a jam is imminent and engages, increasing rotational torque 500% while simultaneously pulsing 60 times per second. It also produces a powerful hammering effect that breaks through the toughest jams before you even notice a problem.
I highly recommend the InSinkErator Excel unit for as it quiet and known for being the black hole of home use disposal units. I do not recommend buying the Prestige unit because of the lack of feature at the same price as the Excel.
CONS: After only one month, I can already see rust on and around the cutting blades.
I bought a new disposal because my old Insinkerator Badger was rusted and started leaking. I decided to spend a lot more money and buy something that would last. After only one month, there's already a small amount of rust on and around the cutting blades.
I called InSinkErator and told them about the rust. Their position is that a small amount of rust is "cosmetic", and not a cause for concern. They then went on to tell me about how the blades are in a moist environment, and never have a chance to completely dry. OK. I get that. But is there not an alloy they could have used that won't rust under these conditions?
I can understand that a garbage disposal costing $59.95 might rust. But should I be seeing rust on one costing five times as much? Maybe this product won't rust through and start leaking after seven years like my old one did. But for $300.00, I don't think I shouldn't be seeing any rust at all. Is my expectation unreasonable?
I have a kitchen sink made of stainless steel. And my dishwasher has a stainless interior. Also, the tub in my washing machine is made of stainless. All of these items are in frequent contact with water. Yet after several years of use, I don't see a speck of rust on any of them.
As I mentioned earlier, InSinkErator considers the rust in my disposal "cosmetic". Therefore, they refuse at this point to do anything about it. In other words, the disposal will have to completely rust through and start leaking (or stop working) for the rust to be a warranty issue. Wow. That certainly gives me "peace of mind" after spending $300.00 for a garbage disposal.
My window for being able to return this product has passed. So for now, I'm stuck with it. Will the rusting get worse? I don't know. But I do know one thing for certain at this point. When it comes time to replace this garbage disposal, it won't be with one made by InSinkErator.
I stuffed a whole bag of old oranges one at a time into it as a first test. I couldn't hear it as it is so quiet but could feel each orange being bounced around a bit. Within 15 seconds the disposer consumed each. The other comments about sound are accurate. You really have to listen to hear it running. The sound level does go up a bit if you remove the circular rubber baffle in the drain. Another really great design element of this disposer over the Badger 1 is the rubber baffle is easily removable for cleaning the underside and eventual replacement. It seats securely and is a very safe design. Easy, clear instructions and product mounting dimensions come shipped and are also available in PDF at the InSinkErator website if you want to check dimensions, etc. prior to purchase. It comes with a heavy, double ended allen wrench, a 90 degree and also a long straight discharge tube and a nice polished fixed stopper with rubber gasket. I am extremely satisfied with the entire experience of this product.

I had more trouble installing it than I thought it would be as I'm neither a plumber or electrician and really had no idea what I was doing.
I will write the review that I wish amazon had when I bought this thing:
You need to buy a power cable. You need to buy a dishwasher connector. You should also make sure there is an outlet under the sink, like I didn't. I also had to buy a connector to attach the output to what I'm guessing is pvc pipe. You will also need some sort of switch, I used the air switch that gets mounted in the sink from insinkerator. That was actually easy to install, but you need a drill, 1-1/4 inch metal hole saw and 3 in 1 oil.
I also had to buy a wrench, plumber putty, gfci outlet, wire, wire strippers, junction boxes, morrettes for attaching wires, and a saw...
It was a lot of work but worth the effort, just more effort than it needed to be because I have never done any electrical work or plumbing before in my life.
I highly recommend this model. Most expensive model on the market but so are most things that are best in class.
