- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2017This enclosure is dead simple to use and performs exceptionally well. The price is great, the build quality is good, the tool-free design makes it possible to install or hot-swap a drive in under a minute, The enclosure comes with its own short USB-C cable, which is convenient, and performance is outstanding. With a Samsung EVO 850 SSD installed and plugged into a 2016 MacBook Pro I got better than 400 MB/sec sustained random reads and writes and was able to copy a 23 GB movie from the local disk to the external drive in under a minute and a half..
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2017This worked as advertised. I was able to open the case, slide in the drive, close the case back up and had an instant time-machine drive that was extremely fast. I like that it came with the USB-C cable too.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2019Works well so far. Material feels like cheap plastic so not as durable as aluminum cases I've gotten in the past. We'll see how they last
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2017I love the soft touch of it and being extremely easy to install. However, its a finger print magnet.
-----Update-----
AWEFUL! Stopped working one month later and almost destroyed my HDD (Power voltage surge message on Windows 10). I can not return it because it 4 days passed the 30 days return window! Avoid this product, or risk loose your drive!
----Update 2 ----
Seller contacted me regarding this issue and they found out that my HDD is little bit more power consuming (1.1A) than what the enclosure can provide (0.9A). Seller was kind enough to offer free replacement that include a DC power-in which will help fix this issue that I had with the previous unit. 5 Stars for excellent communication. Thank you.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2018From what I can tell by the other reviews here, this product seems to be very inconsistent in quality. At the base level, it will read from your 2.5" hard drive, but the performance level you'll get is hit or miss. What I got was absolutely not a USB 3.1 enclosure.
I bought this to use for an external SSD for my Xbox One, but the Xbox would not recognize the drive as a valid option for game storage. Further investigation showed that drives used for Xbox games must be USB 3.0, and that requirement was not being met. I tested several times from my laptop with a confirmed USB 3.0 port, a confirmed USB 3.1 cable, and a brand new SSD. When transferring from my laptop's internal SSD to the SSD in the enclosure, the transfer rate was consistently capping out at 40 MB/s, which is right around what you'd expect from a USB 2.0 transfer. USB 3.0 should be ten times higher. The only possible point of failure was the port on the enclosure itself, as everything else was shown to be capable of higher transfer speeds.
I'll still keep the thing because I'm sure I'll get some use of it, but if you need to be certain that you're getting USB 3.0 performance, you should look elsewhere.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2018This case outperforms my Seagate Thunderbolt 2 to SATA adapter by about 20%, with my Samsung 860 EVO hitting 420 MB/s write and 427 MB/s read (megabyte, not megabit). My Seagate Thunderbolt 2 SATA adapter hits 355 write/382 read with the same SSD. For comparison, my Apple internal SSD does 777 MB/s write and 932 MB/s read.
It came with a foam pad that I needed to use to keep the 7mm SSD snug in the case. It's also not un-attractive, but is not as "sleek" or nice to touch as a metal case. I did have to buy a high speed $10 USB type A to C cable, since my 2014 MacBook retina doesn't have USB-C. The included USB-C to C cable is supposed to support high speeds, but I have no way to test it. When I buy a new retina MacBook with USB-C (ThunderBolt 3) next year this USB-C case should be a good match.
Any adapter to use the Type C cable with my MacBook type A port makes things run at USB-2 speeds, hence my buying a new COOYA type A to C cable from Amazon 11/4/18 (but is not available now). Also all my cheap 6" USB type A to C cables for "fast charge" run at USB 2.0 speeds. I just tested a TITACUTE type A to C cable and it's also running high speed - it looks identical to the COOYA cable. These all come in a 2-pack.
An Ineo brand USB 3 SATA case with integrated type A cable and claimed UASP support was running at 1/10th the speed of this case (40MB/s), whether with Samsung 860 EVO or WD Blue SSD, and then the Ineo died after 30 minutes. Note - both the Samsung and WD Blue SSD run almost exactly the same speeds.
So, I just bought a second Inatek case tonight, and processed a return for the Ineo case. I already have another type A to C cable for it, so I got this one instead of the uGreen that comes with type A cable, since I already have a good experience with this one.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2019I've bought quite a bit of inateck stuff in the past, and so I had no problems ordering this enclosure. I was surprised when I opened the box that the USB-C cable was missing right off the bat. No big deal, I ordered a longer USB-C cable to use with my GoPro at the same time, so I dropped in a new Samsung SSD, hooked it up, and began copying files. It took forever, but I just assumed that there was more video footage in the folder than I realized and I resolved to clean it up once I was finished with my current video project.
Once the copy job was finished, I opened Final Cut Pro X and started cutting video. Only, things took much longer than they should. I have a few of the same Samsung drives, so I know what to expect, and this was taking FOREVER.
So, I did what I should have done in the beginning. I opened up Blackmagic's Disk Speed Test and ran a standard test. As you can see from the attached screenshot it was performing like a spinning disk. Why was the performance so bad?
To test, I first swapped the cable. That made no improvement.
Then, I swapped in another drive, still the same crappy performance.
So, I swapped the new Samsung drive into a different enclose on the same cable, and voila, the problem was resolved.
I even swapped things back, just to ensure the enclosure was really the problem and there is no question, it was at fault.
Needless to say, I will be returning it. I'm a bit surprised by this experience with inateck.
