Disclosure of Material Connection: I received these products for free so that I could provide product feedback to the company and post a product review. I was not required to write a positive review and I do not rate products higher than they should have been. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's requirements.

Since multiple products are bundled under the same entry, this review covers two models ( HB4008 and HB7003 ). The pictures are for the HB4008.

// HB4008 Review //

NOTE: This is a review of Inateck Model HB4008 - Hub with: 3 port USB 3.0 + SD Card Reader + OTG Support

To test the hub, I used my DROK USB tester to measure the current required. Here is the current it required for various items:

- USB hub with nothing attached pulled 0.1A
- Adding a wired mouse made it increase to 0.11A
- Adding a wifi adapter and thumb drive pushed it up to 0.25A

So even with the hub, a mouse, a thumb drive and wifi adapter the total current was only 0.25A which is under the limits for both USB 2 and USB 3. I was even able to get an external USB hard drive to work, but when I connected two drives it started to cause problems - which is to be expected since that is too much for one port. If you plan to use an external USB hard drive, make sure you limit the other devices to lower current devices or just get a powered hub.

After that test, I put my microSD card into the included adapter and was able to read files from the memory card with no problem. I even used the OTG adapter on my Nexus 7 tablet and was able to use my mouse on my tablet. I didn't test any memory cards or thumb drives since my Nexus 7 is not rooted and out the box it doesn't really support mass storage devices.

I got this adapter for Ethernet capability with my Dell XPS 13. It's solidly constructed, however for some reason the ethernet connection is intermittent especially during start up and quite frustrating. If I ignore the problem, it usually corrects itself. The USB ports always work great and are very handy.

UPDATE!(6/24/15) I was willing to live with the frustration of the spotty Ethernet connectivity, however because of my somewhat negative review I was contacted by Inateck who willingly sent me a replacement adapter. I've been using it for a few days now and I'm extremely pleased with the flawless performance. Wow...customer service at its best! I now highly recommend this adapter and this company with a well deserved 5 star rating.

I tested this product in a Windows 7 environment and was extremely impressed. Anyone using an ultra-book or a tablet with a USB (or micro USB) port will find this product incredibly useful when traveling.

The product arrived packaged very well. The build quality is very good (solid) and will definitely survive travel. All the ports are solidly built and I doubt they will come loose. The design is also very stylish as the manual says and is also easily portable. The connection cord (USB) is anchored very well to the device. Installation instructions were sufficient. I did not have to use the included driver (CD Rom) in a Win7 environment. Of significant note, no additional power source is required.

Installation was extremely simple in a Win 7 environment. Both my desktop and laptop recognized the device. However, on a friends system, which was also a Win 7 OS, we had to install the driver. Once installed, we had immediate access to 3 additional USB ports and an Ethernet port.

The product package includes an On the Go (OTG) micro USB adapter making it useful for those tablets, or other devices that have a a micro USB connection. This is a device that will find a place in most road warriors bags.

I purchased this to use with my NVIDIA Shield Tablet. Along with a USB host adapter Y cable (I purchased item B00MAJTTYC), this works perfectly with or without external power supplied. If running with external power, make sure to plug in both the power and Ethernet/USB hub before connecting to your android device. Unplugging the power from the Y cable while this adapter is plugged in will temporarily disable the wired network, but plugging the power back in will not re-enable charging mode on the Shield and the host adapter must be removed and reinserted for power to work again.

Initially the USB ports on this item were very tight. It was actually difficult to insert a plug into them the first time but they have now slightly relaxed.

I have connected the wired network and a USB mass storage device at the same time and both worked as expected. I have not tested any USB 3.0 functionality of this, nor fully saturated the gigabit link, so I cannot comment on the maximum throughput of this device. I did plug it in to a fast network and ran an internet speed test on my Shield Tablet, with very good results: download 142 Mbps, upload 114 Mbps. This is obviously reaching well beyond saturating a 100 megabit link, so the gigabit seems to work. With the wireless connection on the tablet, I maxed out at about 28 Mbps download, so this will be good for use with GameStream on the Shield.

I found that you can plug this in and use your tablet to share the wired connection with other devices using Android's wireless tethering. This may turn out to be particularly useful in those hotels with flaky wireless internet but usable Ethernet.

Curiosity struck me, so I had to test multiple USB Ethernet adapters. Android (at least the 5.
