In my enclosure I have a 250GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO, the enclosure I purchased is the one that supports UASP, which my computer does have. Im running a late 2012 Apple MBP, OSX Yosemite 10.10.2, i7 2.6GHz, 500GB SSD, 8GB DDR3, USB 3.0 with UASP support. I partitioned the drive with a MBR (master boot record) instead of GPT using disk management on a Windows 7 PC. I then did a "erase" as apple calls it or (format) using "Disk Utility" on my Macbook pro. I used "Disk Utility" to format the drive to ExFAT, due to highest performance for both apple/windows compatibility, and set the security options to the option that is just to the right of the "fastest" meaning it performed a single pass of ZEROs over the entire drive before the file system format, took 10-15 minutes. This option is for the Apple "Disk Utility" applet, under "Security Options" on the "Erase" tab. Probably not necessary as the drive was brand new in the box, but I did it anyway.

Benchmark. I used the Mac OS app, "Disk Speed Test" version 2.2.2 by Blackmagicdesign.
I ran 10 tests:

Received 424 MB/s on average write speed. 433 MB/s read speed.

PS if using a Samsung 850EVO use the extra foam pad included with this enclosure to secure drive inside.

Video Review Summary:

→ Kit includes USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure, USB 3.0 Cable, and Instruction Manuel.
→ Product is most useful with Solid State Drives (SSD), however I had no issues using this enclosure with a regular spinning disk/platter hard drive.
→ Setup is really simple, the included instruction manual is very clear on setup and use; excellent for those who are new to hard drive cases.
→ Case is superb for upgrading a USB 2.0 portable hard drive with removable connectors (note: not all enclosed drives have removable connectors), also cheaper than purchasing an entirely new USB 3.0 hard drive.
→ Case performs at expected USB 3.0 speeds; I was able to transfer a 1GB movie in about 20 seconds, several MP3's (100mb total) in about 1 second, and several word docs in under 1 second using a USB 3.0 port on a windows 8 machine.
→ Overall, this case is a really great value at the current selling price, it's really easy to use and the performance is as expected, really a great buy.

This review is mostly about using SATA II HHD but still takes advantage of the USB 3.0 technology; read below. SSD tested towards end of review.

+ Tool-less design
+ Male to Male USB 3.0
+ Quiet operation
+ Perfect fitment of 2.5" Drives with no movement of drive while in case
+ USB 3.0 speeds up SATA II drives compared to USB 2.0

The tool-less design definitely makes this one of the easiest enclosures to access your drive. It is stiff to open at first which is good so that it doesn't come apart unexpectedly but that may degrade over time. The male to male USB 3.0 gives your drive all the power it needs without adding cumbersome wires, but it isn't as flexible as the old 2.0 for obvious reasons. The operation of this enclosure even with a 7200 RPM HHD is rather quiet and the drives fit perfectly inside without slop or movement. The enclosure comes with one side of foam preinstalled and has a slot on the other side to install the additional foam, but this is not recommended as it'll put strain on your HHD/SSD connection. Instead place the foam ontop of your hard drive itself if you don't have a 7mm-9.5mm adapter.

I really wanted to test the difference of USB 3.0 vs 2.0 on a SATA II HHD, and the results were pleasing to see. USB 3.0 definitely doubled the performance of USB 2.0 both in benchmarks and realworld data transfers.

- Tool-less design*
- Lacks any rubberized feet.

The tool-less design is also a potential con. This is an all-plastic construction enclosure and there is no telling how well those slots will hold up over continuous use from taking it apart or if dropped. I'd be more concerned of the durability if accidentally dropped.

I have always wanted an external SSD disc via USB 3.0, and for some reason, they just don't exist. Hence, I thought using a generic HDD enclosure with an SSD should be the solution. So I got this Inateck 2.5 inch USB 3.0 Hard Drive Disc enclosure together with the Crucial MX100 512 GB SSD, et voila, it works, and that even lightening fast!

However, I stumbled on getting to work under Windows 7 as it didn't show in the Drives window. Thanks to an outstanding Crucial Customer Support team I learned I needed to initialize and partition the SSD first in Disk Management to make it show in the Drives window:

Before you can use your new SSD you have to initialize and partition it.

1. In Windows 7 and earlier, open 'Disk Management' by right clicking on 'Computer' and selecting 'Manage', then 'Disk Management'. In Windows 8, move the mouse to the lower left corner of your desktop and right-click on the Start Icon, then select Disk Management.
2. When Disk Management opens, a pop-up should appear and prompt you to initialize the SSD.
3. Select MBR (Master Boot Record) and click OK
4. Right click in the area that says Unallocated and select New Simple Volume...
5. The New Simple Volume Wizard will open, click Next
6. Leave the Specify Volume Size as the maximum (default value) and click Next
7. Select a Drive Letter and click Next
8. In the Format Partition screen, decide on a Volume label (the name you want to give the drive) and click Next

The drive is now formatted and ready for use.

I am using this HDD Enclosure / SDD combination with my Asus RT-N65U router, as a Media Server.
(12/13/2015) Now connected this HDD Enclosure with the 500 GB Crucial MX100 SSD to a Netgear R8000 router for use by the router's media server. Works very well.

Am very happy with this solution. 5 stars no doubt!
