Updated 2nd Edition: Al Gore's new movie An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power is reviewed for its accuracy in climate science and energy policy. As was the case with Gore's first movie (An Inconvenient Truth), the movie is bursting with bad science, bad policy and some outright falsehoods. The storm events Gore addresses occur naturally, and there is little or no evidence they are being made worse from human activities: sea level is rising at the same rate it was before humans started burning fossil fuels; in Miami Beach the natural rise is magnified because buildings and streets were constructed on reclaimed swampland that has been sinking; the 9/11 memorial was not flooded by sea level rise from melting ice sheets, but a storm surge at high tide, which would have happened anyway and was not predicted by Gore in his first movie, as he claims; the Greenland ice sheet undergoes melt every summer, which was large in 2012 but then unusually weak in 2017; glaciers advance and retreat naturally, as evidenced by 1,000 to 2,000 year old tree stumps being uncovered in Alaska; rain gauge measurements reveal the conflict in Syria was not caused by reduced rainfall hurting farming there, and in fact the Middle East is greening from increasing CO2 in the atmosphere; agricultural yields in China have been rising, not falling as claimed by Gore. The renewable energy sources touted by Gore (wind and solar), while a laudable goal for our future, are currently very expensive: their federal subsidies per kilowatt-hour of energy produced are huge compared to coal, natural gas, and nuclear power. These costs are hidden from the public in increased federal and state tax rates. Gore is correct that "it is right to save humanity", but what we might need saving from the most are bad decisions that reduce prosperity and hurt the poor.

DR. SPENCER'S ANTIDOTE TO AL'S ALARMISM

Way back in February 1990, "Reader's Digest" published my report, "What Is the Truth About Global Warming?" To produce that layman's primer, I spent about six months investigating the topic. I interviewed the top climate scientists at the alphabet soup of government agencies: NCAR, NOAA, EPA, and NASA (including NASA's Dr. James Hansen, whose alarmist congressional testimony in the summer of 1988 set off the modern "global warming" scare). I also interviewed a lot of university-affiliated climatologists. I read the major books on the topic of global warming, plus a host of key scientific papers.

What struck me as I read Dr. Roy Spencer's short book is how little has changed in the three decades since Dr. Hansen touched off the global-warming frenzy -- and how closely his conclusions track with those I reached in 1990. The vision of cataclysmic anthropogenic global warming (AGW) remains a theory in search of empirical support. Mother Nature -- including glaciers, sea levels, storm frequency and intensity, drought patterns, wildfires, etc. -- stubbornly refuses to comply with the computerized climate models that forecast dire events from increasing atmospheric CO2. The history of global temperature changes shows that they *precede* changes in atmospheric CO2 by hundreds of years -- which is, causally, the opposite sequence of what we'd expect if CO2 was indeed *driving* temperature increases. And the AGW portion of any climate changes we see remains so tiny and petty that it is still impossible to find or quantify its "signal" from the overwhelming "noise" contributed by nature itself.

Al Gore has been an indefatigable cheerleader for the Climate Alarmist Industry for three decades, now. His book "Earth in the Balance" and documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" introduced millions to gross misinformation, pseudo-scientific claptrap, and outright lies about climate change. More recently, he produced a new movie, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power," along with a companion book. This time, the public, weary of his decades of fear-mongering, has almost completely ignored the Boy Who Has Been Crying Wolf for so long.

Dr. Roy Spencer's "An Inconvenient Deception" may be the final nail in the coffin of this charlatan's tattered reputation -- and (one hopes) of the Climate Alarmism Industry. Focusing on Mr. Gore's movies, this eminent former senior climatologist at NASA takes us on a whirlwind tour -- and withering refutation -- of his movies' sensationalistic claims. In clear, uncomplicated language, he also offers a terrific layman's primer about climate, temperature, and the related phenomena, such as glaciers, sea level rise, and storm patterns. Finally, he explains the fallacies of trying to ban carbon-based energy production and replace it with "renewables," such as wind and solar power.

The math, logic, and *science* on all these topics is unambiguous...for those who are truly interested in such things. Those more interested in perpetuating the quasi-religious, misanthropic Narrative that "Man Is the Source of All Evil" -- who see human activity as a cancer on the planet -- will find no support and comfort in Dr. Spencer's outstanding book. Rather, they'll find truly "inconvenient truths" from a veteran, Tier One climate scientist, one who has done what good scientists are supposed to do: follow the facts, rather than impose some ideological dogma upon the facts.

"An Inconvenient Deception" is a fast, enlightening, and ultimately reassuring read for anyone wanting to immunize himself from the self-serving scare tactics of media manipulators, scientific scammers, and political profiteers.

This book contains very well reasoned, balanced and factually correct information about global warming. It exposes Al Gore who has exploited junk science and scaremongering to promote his own distorted greed and selfish needs. What a fraud and what a hypocrite! Yes we are experiencing global warming but the earth has gone through many changes of temperature during the geologic past prior to the industrial age. There are benefits as well as liabilities to be realized from a warmer atmosphere, especially regarding plant life which thrives on carbon dioxide. Yes we should respect our environment but human life on earth would be dramatically impacted if we suddenly stopped using petroleum. For example, the logic against using battery operated vehicles that depend upon electricity generated by a primarily petroleum fuelled power grid, rather than prohibitively expensive and unreliable windmills and solar panels, would not only not be feasible but impact humanity mortally. Yes we need to use petroleum responsibly, but we cannot ignore the benefits petroleum has given us nor trash our reliance upon it so quickly without finding a real alternative first.

An unsettling look at Al Gore's "science"

I have been following Roy Spencer and his academic partner, John Christy, for 20 years now, and I still believe they are the absolute best sources of information one can find on global warming, climate change, or whatever you want to call it. This book demonstrates the difference between plain, provable facts and Al Gore's highly deceptive assertions in this latest movie. Gore says the science is "settled" and tolerates no questioning of his predictions. Spencer says the science is anything but settled. He argues -- persuasively in my view -- that while the planet has been getting warmer, the rate of warming so far is slow enough that there is no need to fear the catastrophic climate change that non-scientist Gore believes is coming. And while the sea level has been slowly rising for the past century and a half, it is not rising any more quickly now than it was in the 19th Century -- about an inch every 10 years. Spencer is an unusually articulate writer, and well worth the read.

A comprehensive critique of Al Gore's film where the science has been distorted or falsified. This excellent book should be read by all policy makers. There is no evidence of extreme weather becoming more common but in the MSM and the BBC one could expect the world to be destroyed by a small increase in the level of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Roy Spencer has systematically addresses the science behind Al Gore's hype in the film 'Truth to Power', a misnomer if there ever was one.
Because of press reluctance to give a balanced view regarding our 'ever changing climate' this short book is unlikely to receive much publicity in the media.
The latest hurricanes in the US are a prime example of extreme naturaly occurring weather events hyped up be the result of 'climate change', although the records of similar events go back several centuries.

Written to expose the utter lies and distortion of Al Gore's entirely fictional and scaremongering latest movie (a box office flop by the way).

My understanding is that Gore is up to his elbows in green technology investment, so scaring populations into believing global warming is disastrous is great for business.

Dr. Roy Spencer is a world authority on the planets climate. He's considered a heretic by the climate alarmist faithful but in truth, they will never read anything he writes because they are terrified of having their simplistic perceptions overturned.

This book is a necessary companion for when anyone claims climate change is bad. Our climate changes all the time and has done so for millions of years quite naturally with CO2 levels 10 times what they are now, when the planet was glaciated.

So if you see reviews condemning this book, you can be certain it's by a climate alarmist troll who hasn't bothered to read it.

A short, well explained and expert written book by a person who loves his science and follows the evidence not the religion of the green faith. He is both honest and open about the topic and is neither a skeptic or 'denier' - quite the opposite. However he is also a realist, plain speaking and honest about the facts of the topic. The book covers some heavy science in a very, very easy reading style. You will not be lost in over complicated scientific terminology at all.

In conclusion Gore, prince Charlie and the rest of the church of green zealots do not practice what they would sudject the rest of us to because they are delusional, immune to actual evidence or, and more likely, utter lying fruads who profit hugely from this scam but offer absolutely no real world solutions - all this whilst breathing out a carbon 'footprint' 100's of times bigger than the average person.

Mr Gore has a lot to answer for. This book shows how he has taken various facts and run with them to enable him to make a great deal of money out of a contrived 'Man Made' global warming catastrophe. Climate change is shown to be a continuous and natural event with a warming world releasing co2 to the benefit of plant life. Governments have used Mr Gore and the IPCC to enable them tax industry and people to increase their revenue with no benefit for the planets climate.

Roy Spencer may well have some valid points in criticising Gore and the accuracy of his statements. however, this seems to being used to dismiss the whole argument which undermines his criticism:
global ‘warming’ is a misused term for climate change it doesn’t change anything
Fossil fuels have to date and continue to receive huge government subsidies and tax breaks that he doesn’t mention far in excess of any subsidies received for solar and the like.
Surely any renewable source of energy that does less damage to the environment and health of humans is preferable even if it costs more. our greed for profit of course overrides this logic.
of course renewables are more expensive- any new technology costs a premium to early adopters- that’s the only way the price will come down. Unfortunately it’s not all about cost and growth but we are driven by an overwhelming culture of profit and consumerism that will do its best to ignore anything that stands in its way.
Roy goes on and on about solar and wind power being unreliable because of weather patterns. He doesn’t mention tidal power which trumps everything if only we would get on with it.
Roy’s argument is only that gore has no absolute proof yet his own arguments to carry on burning oil and gas equally have no proof. We would be pretty silly to go on as we are and then realise when it is too late that we got it wrong.
