About the author

Roy W. Spencer is a Principal Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was formerly a Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA. He is co-developer of the original satellite method for precise monitoring of global temperatures from Earth-orbiting satellites. He has provided congressional testimony several times on the subject of global warming and authored the 2008 New York Times bestseller, Climate Confusion.

What struck me as I read Dr. Roy Spencer's short book is how little has changed in the three decades since Dr. Hansen touched off the global-warming frenzy -- and how closely his conclusions track with those I reached in 1990. The vision of cataclysmic anthropogenic global warming (AGW) remains a theory in search of empirical support. Mother Nature -- including glaciers, sea levels, storm frequency and intensity, drought patterns, wildfires, etc. -- stubbornly refuses to comply with the computerized climate models that forecast dire events from increasing atmospheric CO2. The history of global temperature changes shows that they *precede* changes in atmospheric CO2 by hundreds of years -- which is, causally, the opposite sequence of what we'd expect if CO2 was indeed *driving* temperature increases. And the AGW portion of any climate changes we see remains so tiny and petty that it is still impossible to find or quantify its "signal" from the overwhelming "noise" contributed by nature itself.
Al Gore has been an indefatigable cheerleader for the Climate Alarmist Industry for three decades, now. His book "Earth in the Balance" and documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" introduced millions to gross misinformation, pseudo-scientific claptrap, and outright lies about climate change. More recently, he produced a new movie, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power," along with a companion book. This time, the public, weary of his decades of fear-mongering, has almost completely ignored the Boy Who Has Been Crying Wolf for so long.
Dr. Roy Spencer's "An Inconvenient Deception" may be the final nail in the coffin of this charlatan's tattered reputation -- and (one hopes) of the Climate Alarmism Industry. Focusing on Mr. Gore's movies, this eminent former senior climatologist at NASA takes us on a whirlwind tour -- and withering refutation -- of his movies' sensationalistic claims. In clear, uncomplicated language, he also offers a terrific layman's primer about climate, temperature, and the related phenomena, such as glaciers, sea level rise, and storm patterns. Finally, he explains the fallacies of trying to ban carbon-based energy production and replace it with "renewables," such as wind and solar power.
The math, logic, and *science* on all these topics is unambiguous...for those who are truly interested in such things. Those more interested in perpetuating the quasi-religious, misanthropic Narrative that "Man Is the Source of All Evil" -- who see human activity as a cancer on the planet -- will find no support and comfort in Dr. Spencer's outstanding book. Rather, they'll find truly "inconvenient truths" from a veteran, Tier One climate scientist, one who has done what good scientists are supposed to do: follow the facts, rather than impose some ideological dogma upon the facts.
"An Inconvenient Deception" is a fast, enlightening, and ultimately reassuring read for anyone wanting to immunize himself from the self-serving scare tactics of media manipulators, scientific scammers, and political profiteers.
Anyone familiar with Dr. Spencer's work knows that he does NOT deny that the earth has been warming and sea levels rising for over 150 years. Nor does he deny that increased carbon dioxide levels - from whatever source - will increase the earth's retention of solar energy. As a scientist whose life work has been the study of the earth's incredibly complex climate system, however, Dr. Spencer shows that the SCIENTIFIC inquiry over whether and to what extent these documented phenomena are the result of naturally occurring vs. human causes is ongoing and far from "settled science."
Dr. Spencer readily explains and refutes Gore's claims that extreme weather events in the past twenty years are "unprecedented" and evidence of catastrophic man-made global warming as a proven fact. He also takes Gore and the UN proponents of anthropogenic global warming to task for the claims that economically inefficient policies should be enacted on a global basis when the effect of our increase of atmospheric CO2 remains unproven and unknown. In a rarely heard but nonetheless accurate analysis of the latest intergovernmental climate accord signed in Paris in 2015, Dr. Spencer demonstrates how those misguided policies won't make any appreciable change in the UN IPCC's projected temperature increase this century but will cost the world economy trillions of dollars and prevent developing nations from acquiring the necessary energy access to lift millions of struggling people out of poverty.
Finally, Dr. Spencer aptly debunks the politically charged claims Gore makes that increased CO2 levels from human activities is causing decreased crop yields and drought. Gore goes so far as to claim that a prolonged record drought in Syria caused by increased CO2 has led to that country's horrific civil war, but Dr. Spencer disproves this fallacy with actual precipitation data and explains the disruptive governmental policy behind the agricultural crisis in Syria that may have contributed to the uprising against that brutal, autocratic regime.
This is clear-thinking, factual analysis that should be read and re-read by so many in positions of power who seem eager to enslave humanity to a CO2 control and taxation regime that will do nothing about a problem that may or may not exist.

Lesenswert.
Even this book doesn't contain a complete list of what's wrong with the movie(s): look for Christopher Monckton's 35 inconvenient truths for extra information.
It's already been suggested that Gore should return his Oscar, so little of the science that backs up his propaganda survived scientific scrutiny.
