The head-straps make for comfortable viewing; just don't neglect the included nose-pads! Without them, I found myself needing to use my hands to take the pressure of the headset off the bridge of my nose. This distracted from the VR experience. Even padded, the nose area isn't perfect; I'll likely have to rig up something softer for longer viewing sessions. The face-padding, though, is very effective and also works as a seal to keep out ambient light.
Loading the viewer is simple; just pull the front lid-flap forward and center your phone on the foam circle. There is also an insertable bracket you can use to ensure the phone is placed in the correct location. The lid snaps securely back into place thanks to a magnetic closure system. Very well designed.
I deducted one star from my rating because the nose area could be more comfortable and also the instructions for the Bluetooth remote are difficult to understand. It's frustrating when manufacturers spend the money to put together a great product, but don't put enough investment toward proper translation of their manuals, guides, etc.
Finally, here are some iOS apps I found that offer a good VR experience:
Dreamizer 3D VR
Mobile VR Station (use to view photos/play videos on your phone)
I received an evaluation unit at a discounted price in exchange for sharing my opinion.
It really is a comfortable headset adjustable straps. Would be nice to have adjustable lenses as well. I do wear eye glasses but removed them and found no issues I just needed to allow my eyes to adjust. I am near sighted and found it to be no problem using this item. Everything on the instructions is pretty self explanatory, where to place the nfc sticker and what does what on the remote. The padded on this device was very nice firm yet soft and comfortable for the user. There are many apps out there for these headsets .some I found didn't work well (double vision) on this one I found alot that worked fine.. I've enjoyed the experience. Nothing like being on a cosmic coaster floating through space or things scaring you from around corners or ww2 style flight combat. I'd definitely say this is a good starter heasset if you are just getting into this.
IF YOU ARE PRONE TO MOTION SICKNESS YOU MAY NOT ENJOY VR!
I spent hours researching VR units and what people have been saying about it. Yet, I did not find any mention of motion sickness being a problem. I remember playing Virtual Boy as a kid and even though all it was was red lines it never made me sick. But as I got older I started to get motion sickness easily when reading a book in a moving car or riding roller coasters and especially when on a rocking boat at sea. And I tried motion sickness pills and it never helps. So just a clear warning to anyone who is severely prone to motion sick. YOU MAY NOT ENJOY VR IF PRONE TO MOTION SICKNESS. Reason why I say that is because after 5 minutes of use I get extremely dizzy and feel like I am going to throw up and it takes about an hour to recover before I can start using it again. I try with different games/apps all produce the same result. I do not believe it is the fault of this specific product where another VR glasses would be better. BUT, it should of been clearly noted as a warning in the description of this product that if you are prone to motion sickness be warned especially for first time buyers like myself. I plan to have my wife take this for a test run to see how it affects her since she has no problems with motion sickness and will update when that happens. (UPDATE. Yes even my wife gets very dizzy but she can last maybe 20 minutes using these VR glasses before she has to stop VS me only 5 minutes.)
Now, moving on. These VR glasses are light weight and seem to be very sturdy. I like that the head harness can be adjusted for any size head and the flap, where you place your phone, has a strong magnet to keep it closed and the flap only opens about 70 degrees so that in case the flap opens accidentally because your flailing your head around with an intense game, the flap will hopefully prevent your phone from launching out of the VR glasses (reminds me when the Wii was first launched and people were throwing Wii remotes at their T.V.'s.).
The Bluetooth Controller. The bluetooth controller is neat and does work and package included 2 AA batteries. Once paired with your phone you can use it for games that support it, media buttons for your videos or to navigate around your phone. One of downsides to this controller is that the sensitivity of the joystick seems to be on as high as it can be and cannot be changed. When playing any game that supports a joystick you get launched in the direction you point the joystick and there is no gradual sensitivity. As in you press a little and you move a little, you press a lot and you move a lot. If my phone supported OTG (On-The-Go. Thanks Amazon for taking away such basic features in your Amazon Fire Phone which makes sense why you guys failed at it and is now discontinued) I would use an Xbox 360 Controller in a heartbeat.
Nose problem. I feel like this product was made for a bigger face. My nose does not fit where the nose indention is and if I do position my nose to where my nose is fully pressed into the nose indention the bottom padding around the goggles press up to my eyes. And if I wear it without my nose fully in the indention and where it comfortably then there is light that is allowed in from the bottom which creates a problem viewing really anything. I tried to incorporate the included nose pads for comfort and to see if that would help with the nose position problem which would correct the light that is allowed in but the nose pads are more to help with discomfort for long duration's of use so the nose pads didn't help. I could see them helping a little when you have a heavy phone inserted but for helping with positioning the goggles correctly, nope.
Use with Glasses? I use eye glasses all the time. When I use my glasses with this VR product you have to play with it. When you first put it on when wearing glasses it pushes your glasses right up to your face. So you push your glasses forward a bit so that they are more comfortable but you don't have much wiggle room. And since there is no wiggle room your eye lashes are constantly batting your eye glass lenses and when you take off the VR goggles you have marks all over your lenses so you have to clean them off in order to see with clarity when using the VR goggles and over and over again. It gets really annoying and I hate when my eye glasses get dirty so I have to constantly clean them when using this product.
Does it work? Well yeah. For the 5 minutes I can play before I get motion sickness the clarity looks great. I chose these because they have the longer lenses then the circle lenses which are said to make the entire picture a bit round. It does do its job and that is tricking your brain into producing the virtual reality effect like I am sure any VR glasses would do even the Google Cardboard glasses that are made from cardboard...but these will obviously last longer because its plastic and the lenses are the longer type which produces no circular or round distortions. I couldn't imagine enjoying VR without the head harness which allows your hands to be free to use a controller or eat popcorn and sip a drink while watching a movie.
Since this is my first VR glasses I cannot compare it and am unbiased so this review is as honest as it gets. The VR technology is at its infant stages and this is only one of many products that can produce the VR effect. I plan to order another and compare the two.
