This came fully assembled and holds about 20 coins, depending on the size of your coins. The slots are sturdy enough that you can, gently, wedge some of your thicker challenge coins into them and it should hold them. It does have two mounts on the back should you want to mount this on the wall, I did not try this, however.

We selected this item to gift our son at the start of his military career. We were sadly disappointed in the overall quality of it. It was difficult to capture in the pictures due to the flash, but the coloring on the shelves is not even. It is much lighter on the right side, than the left. In the corners and spilling forward, there are globs of glue or varnish visible. The sides appear to be scratched and there is a nail visible on the front at the bottom right. Not quite what we were expecting for what we paid for it and based on the reviews that had previously been posted.
