There were too many other points of view in this story, when we couldn't even get some interaction between the supposed main characters. I have no idea why they even love each other. We start the story with them in love. We don't even get their full backgrounds. I don't know that it was even revealed why Walker went to jail, or how he became a tattoo artist. We don't know much about Erika's past other than something messed up happened with her foster parents. Instead this read like a great, big, incomplete soap opera. I have no idea why the ratings were so high on this book.
Sometimes you just need that book with all the angst! This is it. I love the angst! The delicate dance that Walker and Erika engage in for over five years, is impressive, and right when you think, YES, they’re finally going to realize they’ve loved each other for years….they ruin it all because they couldn’t keep it in their pants and, I don’t know, talk to each other a little bit first! And this all happens within the first three chapters! I mean, I can understand that what Ericka tells Walker is probably the worst thing she could have possibly said, but….let the woman explain! And Ericka…, massive mood killer with the orgasmic revelations!
There aren’t any real surprises with the story but you will root for every single one of the characters, you’ll be frustrated by well meaning friends, and you’ll get misty over some of the things these people go through, but you will not be able to stop reading.
I will say there were a few things that I would have like to have more info on…like, why was Walker in prison? Maybe I missed it, but I never got what he did to end up there. And his overly strong reaction to Ericka’s confession…why does he feel so strongly. I have my theories, but I would have liked a better explanation. And I thought Ericka was way too accepting of Gus. But really, those are small issues and don’t take anything away from the story. All I can say is I’m hooked and I can’t wait to get to the next book in the series!
