Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

I missed Will Smith for about 15 minutes, then I forgot all about him. While I love Will and think he's a very talented actor, his absence allowed some of the other actors a chance to shine. I particularly enjoyed Brent Spiner's character, as it developed a bit more in the sequel.
To each his own, but for me, this movie was a hit!

The CGI is pretty relentless but it does it well, so why not? It's the kind of movie which lends itself incredibly well to CGI, and blinding the viewer from the holes in the story with big shiny space ships, future tech, aliens and huge epic invasion style sequences works for me and is a fun way to relax and and let yourself be dazzled by the magic of modern cinema whilst switching your brain off! It's not going to win any Oscars, it's not going to change your life in anyway or endow you with any new found knowledge, but it will pass a couple of hours by quite harmlessly if you allow it to and enjoy sci-fi/disaster/invasion style movies with lots of special effects, pretty people and awesome space lasers.
Please don't expect this to be anything like the original. We are in what seems to be a science fiction movie so a lot of the movie takes place in space.
I have given two stars for the constant excellent service by AMAZON.
As for the film
Well......that is just crap.
Save your money....I am sure there is something more interesting you need.
That box of nails and screws you need for the Garden Shed. Your partner is not going to stop nagging you.
Half of us are die-hard SF fans and we could ignore the hackneyed script and just enjoy the superb 3D and wonderful imagination of the CGI artists and the excellent 7.1 surround sound. It takes the original and winds the effects up to eleven.
The other half (not SF fans) were playing “Hollywood Cliché Bingo” and hooting with laughter most of the way through the film. They reckoned it was their highest scoring film in many years, with gratuitous clichés squeezed into almost impossible spots in relentless rapid succession, often even simultaneously – a true committee creation.
Choose carefully who you watch the film with. Perhaps I should watch it again in one of the foreign languages, maybe Spanish, to avoid the distractions, they all support the 5.1 surround experience.
As usual the extras are well worth a look, and in some instances better than the film.
Amazon need to indicate if this type of DRM is required on a product. You need some tech savy to obtain access, which some people do not have. Had I purchased this has a present then I would be horrified that I foisted this on to someone else.
Not an export America should want the intelligent world to see!
Not worth even a fraction of a star
Clear attempt to leave it open to more movies but again, felt story writing was poor with how this was done.
Just my opinion obviously but not enjoyable.
Shame the writers didn’t.
Good film if you loved the original but it’s no patch on the first one.
Just ignore hemsworrh and the film is okay.
But considering it was mastered in 4K, I expected the picture quality to be stunning.
The first half of the film is very grainy,so while you look for grain you don't have to follow the rubbish on the screen.
It doesn't get much better quality in the second half for the grain or the film.
It's surprising how many actors from the 1st film jumped on board for this mess.
Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich should be ashamed.
Will Smith is sadly missed here, it would have made for a better film if he had returned. I felt his screen son lacked the charisma of Will Smith. They could even have had him as a cameo, not dead as presumed but inside the alien probe, fused to alien tech.
Why not take the old president as the stand in, in this time of emergency? Why some general?
Great performance from the eccentric scientist, he really lifts this film.
The film seems to hint at a third film. Would be nice to Will back for number 3. He's out there somewhere, write him in as not dead in the deep space crash as presumed but among the aliens.
