Im fluent in spanish and this book had errors
I bought this book because my husband, who is from Honduras, and I, a Colombian American, want to raise our baby in a spanish speaking household. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. My husbands first language is Spanish. It’s disappointing to see books that teach us spanish be wrong with some common veggies and fruits all across latin America. Starting with banana. Plantain definitely is not a banana! No where in latin america will you call a banana a plantain! This book says platano, which is the same thing as a plantain.COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM A BANANA! Platano is a whole other fruit! You go into a latin store and ask for a platano, thinking you’re really asking for a banana, you’re gonna get a plantain! Not a banana! You can’t eat a plantain like a banana either! Good luck peeling a plantain and taking a bite of it before cooking it. Another thing is the squash. It was named the same as a pumpkin. It’s technically not wrong, but for someone who lives and grew up in the north east(NY); if I go into a store in October and ask for a calabaza, they’ll send me to a pumpkin patch, even though i’m looking for a squash. So instead, i’ll ask for a chayote. The lemon doesnt really exist in latin america, so limon is automatically the green one, the lime. If we want the lemon, we’d ask for an amarillo(yellow) limon.The raisins are just pasas. They didnt need to add UVAS(grapes) before pasas. Its like saying grape raisins… no, it’s just PASAS.Other than that, i love the material of this book and how it’s indestructible. Just wish it was more inclusive with the LATIN spanish. I have a 9 month old, and he absolutely loves holding this book! Its lightweight, so its easy for him to hold.

When I first opened my package with this book my first thought was to promptly return it! I was expecting a hard or laminated board book and what came looked like a recycled newspaper style book. I was so mad, until I gave it to my kids. Twin 18-month-olds and a 5-year old. They have fought over, folded, chewed on, hugged, stepped on, thrown, and all other manner of rough-housing with this book and, after a month, it doesn’t have a single rip and the folds press right out. I don’t know that I’ll ever put it in the dishwasher like it says you can, but I am impressed! Not to mention, my kids have loved learning Spanish so the bright pictures and bilingual text are great! We also have the Farm one.
