Taking us back to 1910, we are introduced to a family that was devastated by the loss of their daughter when killed by a man-eating tiger. Two sisters were out working in the fields when the attack happened. Whilst we hear the screams and see the unharmed sister running we do NOT see the attack thus making this movie a great history lesson choice for even the younger grades. The family and surrounding villagers tried everything they knew to capture the tiger but to no avail and after many more deaths Jim Corbett was called in. Go with Jim as he tracks the tiger and eventually kills it.

Obviously this is a re-enactment of what happened over 100 years ago but it educates the viewer to the dangers of the tigers running out of space due to the ever expanding population of India. You also get to see some magnificent scenes of these majestic creatures and learn some interesting facts about them.

At only 40 minutes long, this was perfect for our family whilst studying India. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We watched this on Prime. We were not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

Interesting project focusing on several interesting topics but addressing each superficially. The subject matter includes an Indian village terrorized by a "man eating" tiger in 1910, the evolution of Jim Corbett from renown tiger hunter to renown tiger conservationist, the vastness and richness of Indian culture, the majesty and magnificence of tigers, and finally education about modern day Bengal tiger conservation efforts. All fascinating subjects worthy of greater character development. The superficial presentation of each is simple and disappointing.

I rated this film with the highest rating, being intimately familiar with James Corbett, his life and his works of which knowledge I acquired in a lifetime of interest in tigers. If you share my interest, you owe it to yourself to not only watch this short and enjoyable film but also to read more about the tigers of India through the books by Jim Corbett. So I further recommend these three books: The Oxford Illustrated Corbett (Oxford Univ. Press, 2004), Man-Eaters of Kumaon (Oxford University Press, 1946), and The Second Jim Corbett Omnibus (Oxford Univ. Press, 1991). Aside from being thrilling accounts of jungle adventures as told by the famous Jim Corbett himself, the books present us Westerners with an educated view and appreciation of Indian culture--something we could all benefit from. The Indian people and their culture are a world treasure.

Thid DVD is essentially a documentary on Jim Corbett. He is the prime focus, and is portrayed as the man responsible for starting movement to protect tigers. It has boasted quite a lot about India and indian values. However, silently, the onus of tiger killing has been put on indians. It says that the indian kings loved killing tigers, which some britishers too picked up a little in the beginning. Jim Corbett is described as a guy who killed tigers not for his passion, but only for saving indian villagers from man-eating tigers. In these killings, Corbett realised the importance of tiger protection. It could be a true story, but I doubt its integrity. And yeah, the title of the DVD should have been more apt, for example, Jim Corbett: The Protector, in which case I wouldn't have bought it.

I love it and make me love more toward big cat. We should respect all natures. Without those big cats we could run into disease and kills more people than the cat kill. I did not support for the tiger to kill human but we should respect its nature. We the people cross the border. Destroy their habitat. Take their food and destroy their homes.

Or if you want to go. I went on a tiger safari and didn't see a tiger. We saw lots of calm deer which told me the tiger wasn't close.

I would recommend this for the beautiful photography of tigers and India in general. More a travelogue than a documentary based on the life of Jim Corbett, it is nicely produced and attractive to watch. It is, however, not the movie of Corbett's "Man Eaters of Kumaon" that I had hoped. I read Corbett's book years ago and was fascinated with the man and the tigers Corbett portrays so vividly in his stories. My recommendation? Read the book! It is ever so much better in instilling the personality of Corbett and majesty of the beasts he hunted. And ultimately it impresses one with Corbett's plea to conserve much better than this movie.

A beautiful documentary of not only the tiger, but of India as a whole. I enjoyed it very much. The scenery and photgraphy was first class. It's a pity that "smell-o-vision is not included to complete the film. I'm going to India soon because of this documentary.
