Another Great Barstow Novel by Emily Mims

Emily Mims has created a wonderful family of characters, the Barstows, a musical family residing in Kingsport, Tennessee in the midst of the Appalachian Mountains. They live, love, fight, hurt one another and in short act like a normal American family. I’ve been privileged to read many of these stories and can highly recommend them.
These stories explore the family members in a continuous stream of love, loss, anger and retribution. In Indigo, she has outdone herself. The lead characters are designed to make them the most impossible couple ever imagined. And yet, Mims brings out the yearning each has for the other with deft strokes and bright images. We feel Timberlynn’s grief at the loss of her beloved husband, Jake, her fury at Sawyer Ellison and her shame when her grief and a bit too much alcohol drop her into Sawyer’s bed.
If Sawyer were a typical villain, a man we could love to hate, this story would still be interesting. But Sawyer is haunted in his turn, having watched his parents being slaughtered by drug dealers at a tender age. His resultant passion for the destruction of drugs in America is the reason for his involvement in Jake’s death.
Obviously, these two have no hope of coming together.
Unless they are characters who belong to Mims who crafts a situation in which they cannot fail to come together and includes the fireworks, pain, grief, yearning and attraction it takes to make this thing work. As I said, I highly recommend you read all of these stories. But Indigo is so far my favorite.

Itching for the rest of the series!

I was initially drawn to this book because of the musical element, but the story definitely delivers. I was a little skeptical at first, I admit. I mean, the heroine is pregnant by the man she holds responsible for her husband's death. But to my surprise, the plot worked beautifully. I also picked up this book in the middle of the series, but it did not interfere with my enjoyment of the book one bit. Not to mention that now I'm itching for the rest of the series. This book is a wonderful way to spend an autumn afternoon. I definitely recommend!
