The story follows Nels, a champion cross-country skier, as he barely escapes from Norway occupied by the Germans and first hides in the United States and then dedicates himself to the fabled Tenth Mountain Division which trained in the high Rockies near Vail, Colorado and then fought in the mountains of Italy to liberate the country. It's a beautifully told story of suffering, sacrifice, and triumph.
