Richard was patient and knew what all she had been through. Richard was a Duke but worked for the War Department as a spy. He told Jane that she would make a good spy. She laughed until she overheard two women speaking in French about bodies from the cemetery and it bringing a lot of money. Without thinking she left the tea party to follow them. One of the women met a man and exchanged a package.
She went directly to Richard to tell him. However the woman was aware that Jane followed her. She received a note in feminine hand saying "I know it was you."
What will happen now? Why has she chosen not to marry the man she loves? Can she handle two boys borne by someone else when she could have none of her own? Will she survive? What is Lady Stranahan up to? Will she be able to prove it? Sill Richard be able to handle Jane being a spy as well? This is not your usual spy story. It was delightful with a few scary moments. I think you will like it too. There are also some funny moments. There are surprising moments and poignant ones as well. There are no boring ones. This is a book that invites sequels.
For all the beatings she took Jane was a strong and brave woman, making me so glad she wasn’t a whiner or constant crier. For all Richard’s spying Jane didn’t do so bad herself, considering she didn’t have a clue what she was doing. And speaking of spies? Lady Folton was really something. I couldn’t believe it!
I enjoyed every word of the novella. There was NO swearing in it but there was some pretty descriptive sex.
Heat factor hot.
I'm imaging Richard as a young Sean Connery....so smooth and charming.
I really think Jessie does a fantastic job of creating "Real" characters. The way they interact with each other is so well done. I don't want to drop any spoilers, so I'll talk around what I'm about to say.....when Jane protects of the boys, that scene was awesome! And how she "plays" the ending was quite original.
For my final notes, I'll just say, for a new author she's coming out with some really well written books....I think she might be holding out on us........Can't wait to see what she writes next?!?!?!?
For the nitty gritty details: historical detail is there, but not overbearing. Storyline is detailed, and a bit less confusing than the storylines in the first two books (which I enjoyed, but I got lost a few times and had to re-read, which was no problem, as I enjoyed the re-reading). Villains are interesting, but two-dimensional. They really come second to the character development and romantic relationships. Sex scenes are both sweet and steamy. Sex is romantic and vanilla, not kinky. HEA is very satisfying.
I CANNOT WAIT for the next in the series. Please hurry up writing it, Jessie!
