I stopped believing in fairytales after everything I loved was ripped from me.
I'm an optimist in a raincoat now.
Love, relationships, family, they're all a farce.
Love left me broken, a shell of the woman I once was.
And I know it's time to close myself off from the world.
Jude
To hell with eighty-twenty relationships.
Why risk it, when I can avoid it?
I rebuilt my life in another country, focusing everything I have on my career,
But then a chance encounter with Tara Craig, the most stubborn, and frustrating woman alive, tests my limits,
and as much as I want to keep a distance, I can't, because she'd marked my soul a long time ago.

Tara has had many losses during her life and the latest one has seen her fall to her lowest point where she finds herself in a hospital bed unable to walk. She can’t seem to see a way out of her deep dark place until someone from her past reenters to help her find her legs again.
Jude finds himself returning to the US after a very heartbreaking break-up that he would sooner forget completely. Jude is a physiotherapist who has left a life in England to start again and devote his time to his work helping others. He is very surprised to learn one of his parents is someone from his past. A girl he wants knew very well, but this woman in front of him is only a shell of the girl she once was.
Why is Jude here? Can’t he see he is not worth his time and effort?
Can Jude help her to walk again?
But helping her will not help him with the feelings he soon learns he still holds for the only girl that ever matter to him.
She is broken and has lost everything that means anything to her and she blames her mother for most of her pain.
She's not in a good position right now, and her new physical therapist, Jude, is a blast from the past. But she's depressed and in a rough spot in life, and the last thing she needs is pity from a guy that used to mean the world to her. We follow Tara as she navigates this new life and learns to find herself, and perhaps love.
Joseph gave Tara a voice and a fighting chance. Jo-Anne is a superb storyteller with excellent characters and compelling storylines. This book felt different to me than Joseph's other books but I can't say exactly why. But she writes stories that are relatable and give people a beacon of hope. Nicely done.
Tara is withdrawn, unfriendly and bitter since her life was ripped apart. She has weeks of recovery ahead of her, and her new physiotherapist just happens to be her old friend Jude. She's guarded and holding tight to her heart, but if Jude can help her walk again, she's willing to put in the work.
I always enjoy reading books by this author because they’re full of believable conflict that elicits a wide array of emotions. I easily connected with these characters, became invested in their story and experienced everything alongside them. I especially love Tara's character. Her ex-husband treated her terribly (and I'll just add there's a scene with dubious consent, as a warning to some readers), her life has been destroyed and her body wrecked, yet her spirit and determination remain strong.
Jade and Tara's story is an emotional one, with many highs and lows, but the thread of hope is strong, and love wins in the end. This author continues to impress me with her heartfelt work, and I recommend this inspiring read to other romance lovers.
