'The Infancia Project' by Luis Perdomo consists of four originals and five covers that are performed by some of the best Latin Jazz musicians in the industry. The band is led by Luis Perdomo on acoustic and electric piano with Mark Shim on tenor saxophone, Andy Gonzalez on bass, Ignacio Berroa on drums and Mauricio Herrera on percussion. This very satisfying project should interest everyone who enjoys quality music.

The first two songs are Perdomo originals. 'The Other Left' features a hot tumbao by Perdomo's left hand overlayed with a funky riff by Shim and featuring nice solos by Shim, Perdomo and Herrera. 'Berimvela' is a midtempo cool-grooving song with Perdomo gliding effortlessly through the keys on Fender Rhodes and Shim delivering a fine perfomance on saxophone.

'Solar' is a demanding Miles Davis tune with plenty of tricky syncopation and driving rythmn section featuring outstanding solos on bass, piano and saxophone. 'Happy House' is a hot Ornette Coleman free-jazz classic that showcases how inventively the members of this outstanding group interact with each other. 'Comedia' by J. A. Espino slows the set down for a moment, allowing Perdomo to stretch out and demonstrate his sensitive touch on the keys. 'Un Poco Loco' is a Bud Powell composition that is no doubt very familiar to this ensemble but is played with plenty of energy and inventiveness.

The next two songs are more Perdomo originals. 'Meggido Girl' is set up with a hot piano riff and goes on to feature exceptional solos on saxophone and piano with strong support from bass and drums. 'Mind And Time' is another cool jazz piece with Perdomo returning to the Fender Rhodes for an extended improvisation that is complemented by yet another great lead by Shim.

The set closes with 'Major General', a scorching Jack DeJohnette number that features a terrific dialog between Perdomo/Shim and a strong drum solo from Berroa.
