I strongly urge Ms. Jones hire a competent editor who thoroughly reads the books and notates the problem areas. She's a good enough writer that I would volunteer. .
The directions the across the books story is taking seems really interesting, but with the book getting smaller, I hope that something major will bring these two veering story lines back together
Because this has been something long in the making I guess the author feels she can take some short cuts on world building. And character building as well. The last two stories the couple meet, face some danger and mate before or after or sometimes both, but there is no substance to these relationships, and barely any conflict. They just (the women) put up a smidgeon of resistance, then immediately complies. I feel like the men didn't even really work to win their hearts.
Even if this was an abbreviated story, it was still done well, for what's there. I just wish it wasn't phoned in. This is like an overly detailed outline. Like make the story hit this point, then this point. Bring in old characters here at this point. Make another point here, here and here, then tease about the next story at the end. All without even breaking the dime store novel mark of 189 pages. At least try to make it to that page count goodness those extra pages could bring so much more value through description and insight into some other character's minds. Take that MorIN guy, he could use a little more back story. But whatev's I'm just feeling short changed.
