I have said this many times before but nobody tells a story about family like the Ritchie sisters. Infini was no exception. They can weave a beautiful romance for a couple and still manage to give you lots of time with their inner circle without the story suffering.
The first few chapters of Infini were heartbreaking. Luka begins to tell his story and it was raw. You felt the pain he was in when he tells of his lost love Baylee. Baylee’s POV hadn’t even been introduced and you felt like you were already invested in their love story.
“I have lived partially. Halfly. Incompletely. To be whole, I did not know until my bones thundered and bellowed for more.” <-----Hands down one of the most beautiful quotes I have ever read.
Luka and Baylee met in their teens performing in Aerial Ethereal. They are torn apart due to a stipulation in contracts for underage performers. The separation is so extreme they don’t get to say goodbye and their hearts are left in limbo. Now legal adults they are pushed together again to perform in Infini but they are still bound by their contract. The angst is heavy in this story. But their forbidden love is too strong and eventually the tension between Baylee and Luka explodes.
"All I know is what I feel. And I'm in love with you, Bay. Right now. Not just five years ago - but here, today. Yesterday. Tomorrow. It's forever kind of love, and I'm not letting go. I can't let go."
This story has several heavy topics as you learn some of Luka’s issues and Baylee’s pain and need to be whole. You will also fall in love with all of the side characters. I was excited to get more tidbits into John and Timo’s relationship. There is heartbreaking news for Nikolai and Thora and an introduction to Sergei; the Kotova brother they feel abandoned them. Katya completely stole my heart and I am hoping we get to see her grow more. And that Dimitri is going to steam up the pages when he gets his book. Plus as a bonus; if you are a big fan of the Addicted series like I am, you are going to be screaming with joy over all the mentions.
Infini can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read Amour Amour. Each character and couple in the Aerial Ethereal universe are unique and worth the journey. Here's to hoping the Ritchie sisters can write more in this universe.
This was everything I could want in a KB book.
• A realistic romantic relationship
• Strong family bonds
• Amazing female friendships
• A lovable and adorable hero
• A sweet and strong heroine
• Laugh out loud banter
Like all of KB’s books it’s the characters that really make this book exceptional. The main ones and the supporting ones alike. Krista and Becca always manage to write such complex, diverse, and relatable characters!
Infini is told in two-POVs: Luka & Bayle. Luka was first introduced in Amour Amour, he’s a 20-year-old Russian-American, and too pure for this world. We first meet Baylee in Infini, she’s a 19-year-old Jamaican-American, and all around sweetheart. I wish I could talk about the romance more, but I feel like everything is a spoiler so I won’t. If you’re a fan of friends-to-lovers, you’ll love this! Luka and Baylee’s relationship was filled with honesty and open communication and love, there was never any unnecessary drama. (Though this was a lot more angsty than Amour Amour!) They were too adorable.
The entire Kotova family was amazing to read about. I also loved learning more about Dimitri. Timo, Katya, and Nik were a huge part of the plot, and I loved seeing Luka’s relationship with each one of them plus their own individual lives. (Timo & Luka scenes literally made me tear up.) Female friendships were also very prominent in Infini. There was this certain scene where all the girls are gathered together, and it was honestly one of my favorite scenes of the book.
So yeah, if you liked Amour Amour, you definitely need to read this. Or if you’ve never read a book by Krista & Becca this one (or Amour Amour) could be a great first book, as it can be read as a standalone.
P.S. I am so ready for future books in this world.
Luka is probably my favorite of the pair, but I have no issues with Baylee. I think you spend more time with him so that could be why. They are both very passionate people-about each other, the circus, and their families. The romance was heartbreaking and beautiful. It was an interesting take on one of my favorite tropes-reunited lovers. There was definitely a lot of angst, but it worked for me.
Krista and Becca Ritchie are experts at writing ensemble casts. This books was no exception. It's fun to see the Katovas and Baylee's families' interactions. It always feels real like I'm just a fly on the wall during their interactions.
I know this series hasn't done very well-that's a tragedy. Please read it. I know a lot of people want a Timo book, but I would die for a Dimitri book. And I'm pretty sure there was sequel bait in here. Don't tease me like that.
Top international reviews
I laughed. I cried. I asked God what good thing I did in my life to not only get to read Krista and Becca's books but to get an ARC for a book I already knew I was going to fall in love with.
Also, ignore Krista and Becca's kind note about not needing to read Amour Amour - sure you don't need to plot wise but you're only playing yourself out of reading an awesome book if you don't!
Infini begins with a warning of themes of abuse, bulimia, kleptomania and depression. What I love is that KB are not afraid to have these topics in their books and how easy it is to relate to the characters when they go through these things whether you've personally experienced them or not.
Before I start my review I want to start with a quote that is a recurring theme in this series but honestly warms my heart every. single. time.
Circus is Family
On that note, we begin.
Infini is a wonderful book. It's a wonderful because you can tell the amount of time and effort that has been used to create a rich and magnificent story/world. One of the most interesting aspects of this series is properly how it takes part in the same world as The Addicted Series but it's able to stand on it's own. The references are nice but the story is so good, it doesn't even need them (don't get me wrong, I'll take them so happily!)
Nobody writes family like Krista and Becca Ritchie, I'm honestly welling up even typing this as I think about it because the family bonds are just well done. From the sibling bonds in general, to the tight knit group of Luka-Timo-Katya to the no less loving cousin bond with Dimitri, it was hard to read this book and not feel the love within the pages and coming out of the pages.
What made this even better was the extension of this bond from Kotovas to Baylee. Dimitri, who has never had a day without swearing or mentioning *ahem* interesting body parts, has an amazing bond with Baylee.
This is before we get into Baylee's bond with her brother and Aunt. Just love love love everywhere.
This brings us to the people of the hour: Luka and Baylee.
I feel like we got to see more of Timo and Katya in Amour Amour so all we saw of Luka was his ability to diffuse the situation and his kleptomania. Luka is a bleeding heart. He would do anything for his family and he does do everything for his family as they're all he has. I really admired both his easy going nature and ability to know what he had to do with each family member to either push them or help them.
Baylee was a delight, I remember one of my first KB reviews highlighted that as much as I loved the writing, I wished it wasn't such a WASP-y cast. Baylee is a Jamaican-American character and I loved how relatable her blackness was to me. Especially when she had a beef patty ranking in her head - ME! The disappointment of a low beef to pastry ratio cannot be ignored and I'm glad it was highlighted in this book. On a more serious note, Baylee is a surprisingly well adjusted character considering everything that has happened to her in such a short amount of time. I was glad she knew when to pick and choose her battles but also was such a hard worker that I couldn't help but be proud of her every step of the way.
The siblings, everyones siblings in this book have stories that I would like to be told. From the Kotova's to the Wrights and back around again to the cousin Kotova Dimitri, I'm ready.
I CANNOT F-ING BELIEVE THEY CREATED A CHARACTER WORSE THAN SCOTT VAN WRIGHT. I know Geoffrey isn't real but he can cash me outside. howbah dah? When I already thought he was the worst, he somehow exceeded expectations and became literal human garbage before my eyes. It's mind blowing how KB can create books with the most loving individuals like Luka and Baylee but then also create characters straight from the pits of the place down below. Brava ladies!
I cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series [no friends, I'm not giving you a choice in this matter ;)]
Side note: Dimitri and Camila are perfect for each other. I see it now and I must see it in the form of a book. Thank you and goodnight xoxo
Rating: 5 stars
Beautifully written with complex characters and detailed layers of story, this book is recommended to any lovers of NA, sports romance, forbidden love or just plain good books.
Don't get yourself spoiled- I was so pleased I went into this one without expectations, and it was my best reading experience so far this year.
Make all your friends read it too!
Probably their world is a big reason for this. Krista and Becca write side characters like no other. Luka & Baylee are performers in a circus show in Las Vegas. Something complicated and difficult in their past has wrenched them apart. In the present, they struggle to stay away from each other. Because of what they still mean to each other, this is very painful. Luckily both have family in the show to support them - and sometimes to complicate things. Some of my favourite moments are between either of their protagonists engaging with their siblings - all kinds of love are important in these books. And all kinds of love cause all kinds of pain and conflict, making for a story that will put your heart through the wringer. But love is also a force for joy and kindness, which is why reading this book is such a fulfilling experience. All these characters feel like they really live, and their relationships do too.
Infini managed to make me me feel every feeling there is to feel. It really was a roller-coaster of emotions. And I loved every second of it.
I already thought Luka Kotova was a sweetheart from Amour Amour but after reading his story I have so much love for him and I just wanted to protect him. It was great to see his relationship with Timo and Katya and the interaction between all the Kotovas, including the cousins, from the inside and not from Thora's POV. The Kotovas are an adorable bunch. Baylee Wright was an amazing character. She was adorable and strong and passionate. I love seeing her love for the show and her family and see how she fits with the Kotovas. I absolutely adored Luka and Baylee's relationship, I was rooting for them from the first minute.
Infini was the best follow-up to Amour Amour but it is unique in its own way. It will make you hurt but you will also get so much love, these characters are flawed, they have very deep and important things to work out but they are also sweet, generous, and so lovable. You will fall in love with their great sense of family, how they are always there for each other and at the end you will feel grateful you were there to see their story unfold. I honestly can't wait for the paperback to come out so I can't have this amazing book with that gorgeous cover in my hand and relive all this again.
But even more than the romance, the family and friendships were amazing
I love Luka and Baylee and all the Kotovas. I need a Katya book pleaseeee
