It was entertaining as well as educational to read humorous stories about the historical background and deep-rooted attitudes of different countries towards coffee production, preparation and drinking. This book will make you more appreciative of the intense efforts and emotions of the coffee producers, roasters, cafe owners and baristas, who all together strive to create excellence and art in a cup of coffee. Definitely two thumbs-up (more if you have more!) for anyone that enjoys coffee and conversation.
I gained knowledge about coffee processing and what to look for in a bag and in a cup.
I was inspired by some of the drinks and methods I was not familiar with and have certainly been trying out new coffee shops around town ever since.
There are lots of great vignettes and anecdotes that take you to the sites and bring the world of coffee to life.
I'm glad I started my journey of learning with this book.
This is a book about coffee stories, but not about coffee history. The intention is not necessarily to bring facts or only educate the reader; which it does nonetheless. The story will transport you to the different regions, settings, growers, baristas, judges, countries, curious persons: everything and everyone that makes up the coffee world. It is about the author's journey once he discovered "coffee" as more than a "stay awake beverage" and his path to discover every step and detail involved in this drink that is so much more.
There is talk about producers and the amazing effort they put into getting every bean just right: harvesting on time, perfect processing all the way, careful roasting and extremely detailed preparation to conserve the quality. There is talk about cafes, that try so hard to care for these delicate beans. Some stories involve producers, in remote regions of the world, whose lives revolve exclusively around coffee. And for those of you who haven't heard, there are "coffee competitions" - and we're talking brewing, cupping, and many others! I hope this awakes your curiosity!
It is a very entertaining coffee adventure that involves - as the title rightfully says - all the deep emotions rooted in coffee.
You will give your cup of coffee much more thought after reading this book..
