I own a 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder. I recently changed the stock system to the Infinity Reference 6020CS component speaker with the Reference 475a amp and a nice Kenwood head unit. The new speakers sounded good, but lacked clarity below 80 Hz and trying to push the low end through them distorted the sound. I knew I needed a subwoofer, but since the Spyder has only two seats and almost no storage space, I had great difficulty finding one.

I bought this speaker because it was 8" and would match my main speaker since they are both Reference series. I had to build my own sealed enclosure due to the limited space available. I powered it with 150W from the 475a amp. Once connected the sub changed how my entire system worked and sounded.

I set the crossovers to 80 Hz and now the main speakers sing. I can't distort the system even when the volume is loud enough to hurt my ears. The sub adds a tight, punchy low end. I've heard bass lines that I never heard before in songs that I've listened to for years.

I expected that some of the sub-harmonic frequencies would not be handled as well since it is a small speaker. Typically 12" subs are used for booming bass. I was wrong. This sub handled them more than adequately.

If you are trying to rattle your windows, this speaker may do the job, but you should probably go with a larger one. If you want an accurate sonic reproduction with a fast response and clear, crisp bass, this is your speaker. My car now sounds better than most home systems.

A++

I put this sub in a .35 cu. ft. sealed box and I'm pushing it with 160 watts RMS and it sounds great. I compared this sub to many other 8" subs using various box designing apps. and this sub has the best low end roll off in a sealed enclosure than any others I could find. My friend says my sub is "barely legal" because of the high output in such a small setup.

If you are looking to compliment your system with quality bass, this sub is for you. To maximize the lower bass notes you will want a sub amp with a bass EQ centered around 40 to 45 Hz. I am pushing this sub with a Jensen Power 400 amp and it sounds great. I haven't found one song that sounds bad on this thing. (Rap, Rock, Etc.)

I will try to upload some pics of this setup in an 04 Ram, standard cab.

This little 8 inch in my hatch is perfect!! Felt like I made a bad choice not going for a 10 or 12 but man. Even the guy after installing this was surprised to hear so much punch from an 8! Don't need more than this, if you're looking to impress go higher but if you want a good bass to your music and have your friends bobbin' their heads. This will do it. I get a lot of compliments on it!

update: I just installed this guy today ; i was a little nervous while everything was getting hooked because it was so small even with the box . it was powered by an alpine amp at 150 watts rms . bottom line : this thing cranks for what it is. You are defiantly not going to win competitions with this sub but it has great clear sound and pounds when you give it the beans. this subwoofer is proof on how subwoofer technology has improveded over the years. I had it installed at a local honda dealership and the techs kept on coming up to the car "2009 honda civic " and say oh looks its a baby sub and laughed. After it was hooked up they came back and were shocked.

Ok so here is the results of a year and a half of pumping this little sub in an enclosed box. Performance wise its very good, it delivered on the sound aspect no complaints. I run two of thsese and i pump them hard everyday for at least and hour and a half everyday. I live in New York where in the winter its pretty cold sometimes below zero and in the summer time extreme humid heat. The sub began to sound distorted so i figured i blew it. Uppon close examination i tealized it was loose and was letting air in and out when it hit. Fist i was thinking the metal frame became loose from the box and might have lost a screw or two. To mi surprise the metal was secure and all screws in and snug. The actual speaker rubber unglued from the metal frame and thats where the air was leaking creating distortion. The entire speaker ruber became unglued and was no longer one with the frame. The coil is perfectly good so i used some metal apoxy i had left over from a boat repair i did and appled it to the rubber and metal all around it essentialy welding it back to the metal fram. It worked so i will continue to use it until the rubber rippes or something else goes wrong. I have no doubt it will happen to the other one since its about four monts newer. Its a bad design in that aspect and a two wrong design that clups the rubber in place would prevent that from ever happening. Would i buy this sub or another infinity sub again unfortunately noo :( i will try sundown next. I attached some pics so you can see what the problem is and how i fixed it. Hope this informs you and helps you deside. Great sound poor durability.
