From the Manufacturer
Advancing the Science of Sound for 40 Years.
Are you passionate about good sound? We are. With groundbreaking technologies, revolutionary materials and advanced manufacturing techniques, Infinity® loudspeakers have set new standards for performance, simplicity and style for 40 years. Since 1968, when engineers passionate about music founded Infinity in a California garage, its critically acclaimed loudspeakers and design leadership have remained unchallenged. Through the years, state-of-the-art engineering facilities and unmatched resources have allowed Infinity manufacturers to design and develop innovative loudspeakers and loudspeaker technologies that push the limits of accurate sound reproduction. Breakthroughs such as the proprietary Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (CMMD®) technology, Metal Matrix Diaphragm™ (MMD®) design and Maximum Radiating Surface™ (MRS™) drivers are among the best examples of Infinity technologies that critics have roundly acclaimed - and competitors have widely adopted.
And the good work doesn't stop there. The makers of Infinity speakers ensure superior sound by building costly models and conducting unprecedented double-blind listening tests against the competition. A multilevel listening lab and other steps that Infinity takes to guarantee the ultimate listening experience are unprecedented in the industry.
Music and Movies as They Were Meant to Be Heard.
Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (CMMD) Technology
A well-engineered loudspeaker should be like a window into an artist's soul, so that you hear exactly what they intended you to hear without changes or alterations to the sound. Breakthrough CMMD speaker technology does just that with incredibly stiff yet incredibly lightweight materials.
All three drivers in the PSW310W powered subwoofer are made of this incredible CMMD speaker material. Each driver starts with a cone of aluminum that is then sandwiched between ceramic layers, creating a material that is strong enough to hold its shape while still remaining very lightweight. Their light weight makes them extremely faithful in starting and stopping when the low frequency signal in your music or movie does. And since it's so strong, a CMMD driver can also reduce distortions caused by bending or flexing of the cone when moving the large amounts of air required by deep bass notes. This ensures your bass sounds deep, tight and accurate. And with low bass extension down to a room shaking 28Hz the PSW310W is a "must have" for today's high-definition entertainment experience
A poorly designed speaker enclosure can actually resonate and add its own "sound" to your music. That kind of speaker is like a guitar; a guitarist may use multiple guitars because they all resonate differently, each producing its own unique sound. While this variation is important for a classical guitarist, it isn't good for a loudspeaker. Resonance can really change a speaker's overall tonal balance and alter the sound of the recording that it plays.
With a special tool called a scanning laser vibrometer, Infinity technology pinpoints the location for internal bracing on the PSW310W ensuring that the enclosure is so rigid that it does not vibrate or resonate. So with the PSW310W your bass is accurate and resonance free with out overpowering the rest of your speakers. All that you hear is your music and movies - exactly the way you deserve to hear them.
And since Infinity has engineered the PSW310W with three smaller 10" drivers than one larger driver, they have been able to give the PSW310W a sleek, small footprint without effecting bass response. The enclosure's elegant exterior and unique design will fit into nearly any room's décor meaning the PSW310W looks as good as it sounds.
Powerful 400-watt amplifier
To drive the PSW310W's powered 10" woofer, Infinity employs a powerful 400-watt amplifier. This high-performance amplifier is engineered to produce the flagship level power and performance that the woofers demand. The clean, clear power that it generates packs the punch to drive the woofers to room shaking levels when watching your favorite movie just as well as deliver the subtle differences between bass notes when listening to music. It's an efficient, powerful design that is truly reference quality and just another reason why all you hear with the PSW310W is your music and movies as they were meant to be experienced.
R.A.B.O.S. (Room Adaptive Bass Optimization System)
When it comes to low frequency bass, the room can have a huge affect on quantity and quality of bass that you hear when sitting in the "sweet spot". This is especially true when it comes to powered subwoofers. Often times where you sit to watch movies or listen to music will exhibit boomy, overpowering bass that affects the overall performance of your sound system. To ensure that PSW310 powered subwoofer sounds good everywhere in the room and especially in the "sweet spot", it employs an advanced bass optimization system call R.A.B.O.S. Using an optional R.A.B.O.S. kit (sold separately) the system allows you to calibrate the response of the PSW310 precisely for your particular room by reducing the exaggerated bass peaks that many rooms produce. It is easy to do and the results are amazing. With R.A.B.O.S. you will experience deeper, more detailed low frequencies than you have ever heard before. Your music and movies will truly sound great everywhere in the room.
Often times where you best need to place your powered subwoofer can be quite a distance from your home theater receiver requiring an expensive subwoofer cable. Plus, who wants to see an unsightly subwoofer cable running across the floor? Infinity's advanced technology, performance and design now has the answer for delivering room shaking bass minus the cables. The PSW310 features wireless connectivity to allow you to place your subwoofer virtually anywhere in your room without the expense and trouble of having to run a long subwoofer cable back to your receiver and hook up couldn't be easier. Just connect the included wireless 2.4 GHz transmitter to your home theater receiver where the subwoofer cable would normally plug in and choose one of the 4 available channels on the back of the transmitter. Next, set the channel on the back of the PSW310 subwoofer to the same channel that you set to the transmitter to, position the PSW310 in your room and plug the subwoofer in. That's it. And how does it sound? The secure 2.4 GHz connection ensures a clean, distortion free signal that makes getting great Infinity bass in your system simple.
