So after using them a few times here are some things I want to add...
Still LOVE them! I think the price is fabulous and that is what really take me from really liking them and loving them. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a purple one if ISLE is looking to add another color ;-)
Anyway, so we are fairly pale people and use LOTS of sunblock. I tell you this because with getting on and off the board in the middle of the lake --dragging my body out of a fresh water lake is not as easy as the brakish water I am used to in FL-- sunscreen got on the white portion and make it look yellow/dirty. Also, being a lake there is mud ... also adding to the problem of keeping the white WHITE. We used them 2 days in a row and I decided packing them up wet is okay but I will always wash them right when I get home from now on. I used a sponge and a cleaner that has oils in it because I don't want to dry it out really bad with constant use to clean them. Oh, I say "them" because I have Aqua one too =) . Anyway, I washed the entire board (both sides) down and hosed it off. The white is pretty white again but I think it would have been much better to wash it after each use. I washed them deflated and it was a pain in my butt! lol. I think I will pump them back up from now on to clean them. And then I laid them out for the mat part to dry. I also washed the poles and turned the bags inside out and sprayed them down --I don't want any weird odors from lake water having dried on them. The paddle does in fact float! I went to a local store that sells and does classes/tours for SUP and got this cool adapter (I will add a picture) to pump them up with a car tire pump that plugs into the "cigarette lighter" plug in the car --just gotta get the pump now! To make sure it was gonna work with the board the guy went out and looked at it with me. He said the pump is pretty good and told me how to clean it if any dirt or whatnot gets in it. So, you take the whole part with the lever out and can wash out the tube part and the lever part and then you just add some lube or Vaseline to the rubber part. He tests out boards and is going to be testing some ISLE boards and I told him it was their "other" brand and he said they make some great boards. I know this one doesn't have quite the same level of awesomeness that the actual ISLE brand does but I am pretty happy with them! I am glad I took the chance on them! Out at the lake a few people commented on how nice they looked =) I really like that the paddles match the boards. For 1- no one can take MY paddle (I am at the point I am getting over the "what is mine is yours" aspect of parenting, haha), and 2- I can see from pretty far if the people on the SUPs out there belong to me!
I kinda felt the need to write a decent review, how ever all over the place :-) , because there was no reviews on it and I usually don't buy stuff without reviews and think many are like me. Also, I think most people who go for these boards are probably new to SUP, as we are, and could use all the help possible. Not to mention the price. We want to know it isn't "too good to be true". While I can't speak on long term quality I would definitely buy another one! I got 2 right away because hubby was getting ready to go on a long trip for work and I wanted us to be able to SUP together rather than taking turns. Ultimately I would like to have 4 (or a 5th for visitors to use) total but will wait till next season to get more.
Now that you know WAY too much about me! I think I have included just about everything but if you have a question you think I could answer for you let me know!!
(not sure why the pictures are sideways, sorry)
Pros: Affordable, beautiful board, seems durable, easy assembly, light to carry once inflated, soft cushy foot board, sturdy tether ropes to keep your stuff in place.
Cons: Not as stable as a hard board, you feel every ripple of water underneath you which can feel alarming, no Go Pro mount for those who want one, VERY heavy which may make traveling with it hard and that's why I bought it.
****Late season update:****
I'm back to give a little more of a review to the board. I've taken it out a lot this summer, so I have more to say. My first time with it on the water was a little rough because I wasn't used to it. Don't give up on it-- keep getting it out on the water. It's been a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be!
First-- I can't stress enough how important it is to get it to 15PSI. You will have a much better experience on it. I still feel the water through my board when there is chop, but it's not as alarming as the first try. Oh, and it does get easier to pump it but it's still tough. Put your back into it and don't use just your arms. It also helps to squat and use your core. Personally, I embrace the extra exercise! And the valve-- make sure it's up and twisted counterclockwise or, when you take the air hose off, all the air will come out and make a loud sharp hissing noise and then you have to repump. An error like this will cost you 8PSI and the last 8 are the hardest to get so MAKE SURE the valve is twisted up!
Second-- My third time using the board, I somehow got a scratch on the surface. I don't know how that happened-- it's not as if I brought a needle on board with me and scratched it. I used the glue in the repair kit to patch it but it didn't seem to work because every time some water gets on the surface of the board, it bubbles and hisses. I called Isle Surf and SUP since it's still in warranty, but they are very hard to get in touch with. I'm still trying to get to them after sending an email, phone call, left a voicemail; and a message on Instagram. It's like pulling teeth. A board that is supposed to be this durable to where a car can run it over and not leave a scratc should not already have a scratch on it.
Third-- it's easier to carry in the backpack now that I am used to it.
Fourth-- I took it through some super choppy water and it held up great!
Fifth-- I find that rolling it up to put away for storage is kind of a pain. It's just a little tough and there are sharp corners that form that kind of scare me that they're going to wear or something. I really want to keep this board around for a long time, and I don't always have the budget to buy it, so that makes me nervous.
All things considered, I love the board. I feel so proud to have my own, and I recommend it with just a couple of the caveats I mentioned above.
