This item is perfect; we recently upgraded our entertainment center and found that our Receiver was too big for the side shelves that have glass doors, it needed to be in the center shelves, which do not have glass doors. So to operate the Receiver we would have to keep the door open. This looked like a perfect solution so I ordered it. The item arrived quickly, and it does come with have instructions; however they were not printed in English. The included pictures do show enough information to be able to hook it up correctly.

When researching this item I was unable to find any data on the length of cables so here is the layout of my unit.
(USB 5V connector)-----Approx. 6 feet of cable----(IR Receiver)----over 9 feet of cable-----(IR Emitter)

The IR emitter is quite small and is meant to be mounted (via self-adhesive) directly to the face of the equipment directly in front of the components IR. I was not sure exactly where mine was located, so I used the remote for the receiver and pressed it directly against the face, and moved it around to see where it worked best; I found it was located on the right side of the display. And stuck the IR Emitter there, the remote still seems to work well even with the IR emitter blocking a small part of the display.

The IR receiver also has a self-adhesive to keep it in one place, and has a small LED, this LED is green when powered on, and flashes red as it receives IR signals.

The 5V USB connector, I first plugged into the empty TV USB port, however, with this setup the Extender would only work if the TV was powered on, since we use the receiver for music as well, I opted to use the included 120V wall adapter.

This is a great little problem solver for when you have a TV with just a single cable box or disc player as the source and you want to keep the source hidden away. In my case I was wall mounting a flatscreen and I had a DirecTV Genie mini DVR attached to the back of the TV for a nice clean installation. All I had to do was attach the IR receiver of this repeater system on the front of the TV in the corner right next to the IR receiver for the TV using the double sided adhesive included. Then I attached the IR transmitter to the DirecTV Genie mini DVR IR receiver on the back of the TV. I plugged in the USB connector to a port on the TV (I could have also used the one on the DVR) and zip tied the cables neatly. There is no programming or setup involved because the repeater simply "repeats" the signal received from your remote to the device that is hidden away. While in most cases you will want to power this system using one of the many USB ports found on all electronics these days, but it is nice that they also include an AC power adapter for additional flexibility.

I, like some others, needed more than the nine feet of wire to the receiver. I cut the receiver wire and spliced in an extra 25 feet of Cat5 (Just used the blue pair). I used telephone wire splices from Radio Shack.

The spliced setup works perfectly to control the cable box for yy A/B switch connected dual TV setup

Works great--very pleased. Easy to install and works with the multiple devices/manufactures that I have. Would recommend to anyone who needs to control electronic equipment that is installed out of line of site for IR remote controls. Arrived in a timely manner and packaged well. Very pleased.

Great deal for the price. Does what promised - controls the cable box. This is a wired connection for tv and the cable box, so the distance between your units is limited by the length of the wire. Purchaced two of this, would recommend.

I'm using this to control a Tivo box that is housed in a cabinet under the TV. It was very easy to set up (< 5 minutes), and worked great right out of the box. Now I don't have to open the cabinet doors to control my Tivo, and the receiver piece is barely noticeable.

We just rearranged the living room and added a coffee table that blocks the DVR -- making it pretty difficult to control the TV. Found this as a cheap alternative to rearranging some more.

It was easy to connect and at first, it worked very well. After about a week, I noticed that the DVR would not respond even though the receiver flashed when I pressed buttons on my remote. At the time, performance wasn't so bad that it bothered me too much -- plus I was thinking that the problem was with the DVR and not the remote extender.

After two weeks, the problem became progressively worse -- to the point where it was frustrating to watch TV. By week three, we began avoiding the TV in the living room.

After some troubleshooting, I found that the DVR worked fine when the remote signal was in its line of sight. That's when I requested a return of the product.

To give you a bit of background: I'm 20-year electronics professional who has worked on nearly everything from radar systems to network backbone devices. There's not much to this gadget which is why it's disappointing that it did not work.
