Read all the reviews about this air hammer. Given that I also needed to buy a compressor to strip my bathroom of the old tile, and that the one I was thinking about buying, the Campbell Hausfeld (which despite of good reviews here at Amazon) requires 6.2 scfm @ 90 psi, and the compressors that put that kind of air volume cost more than I wanted to spend, I decided to spend more on an air hammer, and get this one. The fact that it's also sold locally was also a definite plus.

The compressor I bought puts out exactly 4.0 scfm @ 90 psi, which is what the hammer requires. Long story short, I stripped the old tile off my bathroom in about 20 minutes. Then, I used the hammer's regulator to fine tune the force of the punch and help remove the residue of thin-set mortar from the old tile, barely scraping the concrete floor.

first of all the picture is wrong(instead of the spring type holder, you get a quick release tool holder)which can translate into more dependability,if you oil and take care of this tool it will give you a good life span of more than seven years using every day(untill needing to rebuild it) and that's using it every day on some hard and repetetive work(I even chopped an 86 mercury cougar in half with this thing and removed every thing in it's path with no problem)totally recommend for anyone on a budget and needing a tool that will last through some serious work.

This thing is awesome! I was blown away by how good a quality tool this is for the price. The tool is heavy, solid, well built, and in my experience so far it continually works as expected as long as I put in some air tool oil before I use it to keep it lubricated. I've mostly used this to clean bricks, break up concrete block, break up a little concrete, etc. The chisels have worn down a lot over the course of using it many times, but I think that is to be expected. I would without hesitation recommend this product to anyone and I have tried to find excuses to buy other Ingersoll Rand air tools after such a positive experience with this product.

This is an excellent air hammer as other reviewers have pointed out. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the air flow adjuster would move all by itself to a higher setting while I removed ceramic tiles and thinset. It was annoying to have to adjust the flow after each tile.

I paired this with a Bostitch 6 gallon pancake compressor. The compressor was rated 2.8 cfm and the air hammer required 4 cfm. I would sometimes have to wait for the compressor to catch back up, but this wasn't really an issue as I just cleaned up the mess before moving on to the next set of tiles. This is a great product for the price and you won't be disappointed.

Cons
My experience was different from all other users here after the quick change coupler jammed so the chisel could not be removed at all. The tool also stopped working completely so I returned to Amazon for an entire replacement.

Pros
Worked amazingly well with a small "hot dog" style DeWalt compressor as students cleaned cement off hundreds (yes hundreds) of bricks, hence my decision to re-order another.

Will update here after testing new tool.

Update
Replacement stopped functioning the first time we used it! Amazon's return policy is not exactly wonderful for this situation.

I wanted to love this air hammer, but its just blah, if its something u need for small jobs go ahead and get it, but if ur like me and use it daily on auto repairs....may look elsewhere. It operates smooth and does a good job, it just lacks some in the power area where I need it to. Also the head on this constantly seems to loosen itself..ie I have to tighten b4 every use. Like I said if u want a good one you may have to call the tool truck but if ur on a budget like I was then this will get you by for awhile. would rec

So much more power than my old air hammer. i use it most often with a pickle fork bit and it hasnt had a problem with any tie rod or ball joint yet within reason. i also really like the quick change "chuck" it has. it works similar to a an air hose coupler. you simply pull back the collar and put in the tool.

However, the tools should be longer while using the quick change adapter so if you already have a full set of are tools. the chuck thing is completely removable to instead use the old spring style retainer.

The shorter tools WILL work in that chuck, it just doesnt reach out as much any more.

p.s. if you are looking for a good set of pickle forks that can be used with either this or a hammer, check my other reviews.

Bought this air hammer after it took me 4 hours to demo a tile wall in my bathroom and had 3 more walls left. Got on the second wall with this air hammer and 20 minutes later I was done. This thing is awesome, what a time saver! The price and build quality is top notch as well.
