Why is there a cancer causing ingredient in this bag???

Why is there a cancer causing ingredient in this bag???
I really liked these chips until I saw a proposition 65 warning on the bottom left side of the back of the chip. Why would consuming plantain chips expose me to chemicals know to cause cancer, birth defects and reproductive harm???!!! I usually see this label on rugs. Why is this sold on Amazon and Wholefoods???
Thank you for your feedback

Awesome! Just awesome!! I am having to change my eating habits, and limit what I can have in my diet. However, I love a good crunchy snack as much as the next person! I found these on Amazon, and I bought them because I love the individual bags. I must not have read the ounce size, because honestly, I thought the bags would be tiny, and like the size of small chip bags. Nope. This box contained 12 bags of plantains, and apparently 4 ounces is quite a bit. There's 4 servings in each bag (if your eat 1 oz per serving), and I love the value for my money. These individual size bags are great for on the go, and I don't have to worry about not having a snack on me. The plantain chips have 3 ingredients (palm oil, sea salt, and plantains). Three simple ingredients is great for ensuring I know what I am feeding my body, and knowing there are no additives or preservatives. The plantain chips taste pretty good too, and have a slight salty taste that make them pretty enjoyable. I will definitely be buying more!

The perfect snack for everyone.

The 4 ounce Inka Plantain Chips countains 4 servings of 140 calories each (60 calories from fat). Sodium 60 mg., Potassium 220 mg, Total Fat 6g (9%), Saturated Fat 2.5 g (13%), 0 Trans Fat, Carbohydrates 20g (0 sugar), Protein 1g, Fiber 1g, Vitamin A (6%), Vitamin C (15%). The good news about the fat is that it is a plant based saturated short chain fatty acid, so your body can digest it efficiently.

For anyone who isn't familiar with plantain, it is an Asian fruit, which like it's cousin, the banana, was introduced to the new world by 15th and 16th century explorers, such as the Portuguese and Spanish sailors, so calling them Inka Chips is interesting. For more than a year, I was looking for a good gluten-free cracker and I never considered a plantain chip as an excellent substitute until now, and shame on me, because I discovered them about twenty years ago. As a matter of fact, instead of making dumplings out of wheat flour, Puerto Ricans make them out of ground green plantains or bananas. I never ate plantain chips as a kid, but I did enjoy the plantain dumplings in soup; they were delicious and low in fat. Puerto Ricans also combine the ground plantain with other tropical tubers and stewed meats to make a huge dumpling that they boil in parchment paper in order to keep it intact while it cooks in a light brine; it's delicious and filling. At the West Indian markets in NYC, they sell plantain, banana, casava, and peanut flour. So, if you like to cook and experiment, you may want to make dumplings from such flours; I'm not a cook.

The Inka chips are thicker than the plantain chips that I ate years ago, making them a suitable cracker substitute. I cover them with peanut butter or fruit preserves and enjoy them as a snack. I also crush them and add them to my bowl of soup in order to give the soup a nice crunch; these chips hold up well in liquid, better than Saltine crackers, with less salt.

I just received my second box of these within a month so they have become an addiction. Thinner than some other brands & lightly salted, with a nice crispy texture. Much better for snacking than potato chips. I have heard some other brands have a strange after taste but I haven't noticed this. The boxes have been delivered within a week of my order so I certainly couldn't complain about that. The box I received yesterday was a bit torn and crushed with taped sides but the contents were unharmed so I can't complain about that. I plan to order more.

I ordered a box of roasted chips and received an assorted pack instead. Since there is no way to return the items I've tried the spicy one and the sweet in addition to the roasted. I prefer the roasted chips overall, they are light tasting and are a great alternative to crackers. The spicy ones have decently natural ingredients but I do prefer the roasted. The sweet plantain chips are just that...sweet. When you order and expect to receive just the roasted, as you continuously re-order the product every few months, opening the box to find an assorted flavor shipment can really screw up your eating habits. If you don't mind getting a different product then what you ordered, this is the stuff for you!

These chips are made out of plantains--which may look like bananas, but don't necessarily taste like them! While you can make your own fried plantains, these have a hard, crispy chip texture that can't really be replicated at home. They have a little hint of a potato chip flavor--especially since they're similarly salted. However, I've found that if they get too hot, they can potentially start tasting sweeter and more like bananas.

These really vary by batch as to flavor. One case might have really oily chips sometimes, another ones that are a little overdone. I personally wish they were a little more consistent, but due to my many MD- and test-diagnosed allergies, these are basically the only chips I can eat! I have been eating them forever, and would recommend them, especially to people with limited diets. I do wish they were a little more consistent in quality case to case, though, and perhaps cut a bit thinner.
