Books in Stark Series should be read in order:
Book 1: Layers
Book 2: Inner Core
Layers (book 1) is the story of recent College graduate Hayley Grace who while job searching met and started dating the CEO and founder of Stark Software, billionaire Daniel Stark.
Haley, recently sworn off casual hock-ups but alert to the way the game is played, wasn't that interested. Daniel stepped up his game and so an interesting and captivating relationship ensued. They were slowly peeling off each other's layers only to have their world come crashing down by the pressure of dating a famous billionaire.....
Inner Core (book 2) picks up right after the shocking cliffy at end of book 1. Daniel and Hayley are trying to put the incident behind them. Follow in a stage of bliss as they continue on their journey of getting to know each and deepening their bond.
But soon their world is rocked by a shocker and later danger that threatens everything. It is going to take a lot of work to get past it. Having peeled the layers down to the core of what they are and have; Are they willing and able to fight for what they built?
DANIEL STARK: 34 years/Founder & CEO Stark Software Technologies/$$$$/blond hair/hazel eyes/6'3"/tattoo/scars.
Daniel Stark was an captivating and memorable hero and saw growth in him throughout! Seven words to describe Daniel: visionary, commanding, impulsive, reflective, flawed, caring and captivating.
"Here it is, Hales, a rare glance at Daniel's inner core. Rough, violent, powerful, emotional, kind, and ... hurt."

He is determined to get her back, and make her his at all costs.
Daniel became the perfect book boyfriend in the second half of Part 1, and is keeping up his lovely act throughout Part 2. The problem is that Haley - who started out as someone, nice, fun and down to earth - just couldn't get her insecurities in check. There's a constant back and forth between the two: they break up, the get together, they break up again ... and of course it's all due to stupid misunderstandings.
Haley is a real tease (well in the bedroom she's not) and wouldn't know the perfect book boyfriend when it bit her in the bum. And Daniel keeps trying to make it right to her; apologise, make amends and so on and so forth. Lame. He could have shown a little more character.
The pace of the story was a tad annoying - it's quite slow and whatever "intrigues" happen along the book, they are insignificant, and the drama they create is out of proportions. The ending was nice, but it didn't strike me as anything spectacular. It felt a bit rushed and too much along the lines of what was "expected".
Also, I was disappointed to find out that Inner Core had lost the fun and hilariousness of Layers. Even though Ian and Tasha - Haley's hilarious friends - did make up for it (a bit).
So unfortunately, Inner Core was not really the revelation I expected it to be. The sass and humour that were so entertaining in book 1 are scarce, and the storyline and intriguing events that were already lacking are now... inexistent.
Inner Core remains a nice read, but I wouldn't choose this over Colleen Hoover, Abbi Glines or Alice Clayton. At all.
I have, quite literally, been giving myself a good kick in my behind for not having read this book sooner. Yes, I have been very busy lately, but still…Anyway, let me start my review of “Inner Core” by saying that you cannot, under any circumstance, read it without having read the first book in the Stark Series, “Layers”, first (you can find my review on my blog), and I honestly believe that this author needs to get some more attention.
The story begins with Hayley nursing her broken heart home at her parents’ house after Daniel’s rejection, and I might as well confess right now that her unhappiness really made me feel for her. Her feelings of heartache, sadness, and pain come across really well – but there is also a bit of anger mixed in with them, and is that not always the way after a bad break-up? I believe it is.
Nevertheless, Daniel suddenly appears out of the blue, and like the bossy, arrogant and alpha male that he is, he convinces Hayley to give him another chance. It does not take that much to talk her into it, because she loves him more than anything in the world and does not wish to be apart from him again. But the question is: will she be able to trust him? To me, that is one of the key elements of this book. That, and letting go of past grievances, forgiveness, and, ultimately, allowing yourself to live life to the fullest despite the fear of getting hurt.
One of the things that I really love about Hayley is the fact that she is still this feisty, strong woman, but she learns that it is acceptable to show her vulnerable side to the outside world.Read more ›
