4 stars! Debut author Jacki Delecki takes readers into the world of hot firefighters and a vet that reads dogs. Graycee is a vet who has a practice in acupuncture for dogs. Not only is she a strong modern women she reads animals auras and receives premonitions from her dead sister. One of these paranormal encounters leads her to witness a burning shed and to the attention of Lt. Davis, the fire inspector. Things heat up for Graycee and Davis as they solve a crime and Graycee tries to protect the guy she loves. With a little help from her friends we have a happy romance for all. An Inner Fire is a hot new romance that is perfect for a summer read. Who doesn't love a strong alpha hero, a damsel and a poodle names Mitz? Davis is the entire typical alpha hero, but he has a sweet side. Graycee is the perfect partner. She's strong, sweet and willing to go the extra miles for the people around her. Also the secondary characters are strong and funny. James, Graycee's best friend, was a jewel. An Inner Fire had a mystery to solve that kept the story interesting as the story progressing. This is an all-around a great read. I look forward to read Jacki Delecki's next book. -- Lisa Jung, Night Owl Romance

A fiery, engaging mystery with a touch of the paranormal. -- Kirkus Review

4 stars! I haven't read a book from this genre for a long time, and this has kick started my love of these kind of books again. I would definitely recommend this book! -- Lorraine Harvey

5 stars! I love how this book flows from start to finish. I would love to read this book over and over again. -- Sparkling Pink Bookshelf

From the Author

Why an animal acupuncturist instead of an ass-kicking heroine? I've asked myself that question many times as I wrote An Inner Fire. How did healing animals prepare Grayce Walters with the skills to solve crimes and protect a macho, hunky fire investigator?
Maybe I've been watching too many super heroine movies but I wanted to show my heroine's strength coming from her inner force. There are many different kinds of power and I wanted to emphasize the feminine side. The part of the human brain labelled as feminine because it relies on intuition.
Grayce uses her intuitive ability to heal animals. Is there any more beautiful or potent force? I wanted to celebrate the illusive power in people who listen and heal when we or our pets are ill. Not so easy to write a strength that we can recognize but when written can easily become cliched.
I always planned to write the book as romantic suspense since I love suspense and a crime to be solved. But how to link Grayce to a crime and then how to have her actively involved in solving the mystery? The answer is obvious--through a dog, a very special dog. Mitzi, is a standard French poodle who just happens to belong to the logical fire investigator.
Grayce and Mitzi bond with a common goal: protect Davis who is oblivious to the danger and can't imagine protection from a 90 pound woman and 100 pound dog.

An Inner Fire is a mixture of laugh-out-loud frivolity and edge-of-your-seat suspense with the backdrop of Seattle's waterfront supplying the set. Delecki writes smoothly, blending humor and romance to this suspense thriller. One of the many things that set this story apart from your regular romantic suspense is the addition of a dash of paranormal, just enough to enhance the conflict between the love interests and add spice to the story. The main character has an unusual ability that pulls in some interesting scenes and layers. If you like high action with your sizzling romance, this is a great pick.Or if you like a touch of paranormal. Or dogs. Or Seattle. Delecki writes Seattle like she knows every nook and cranny of the downtown area.
The final scene is hold-your-breath exciting, leading to a satisfying wrap up. I look forward to the next in the series!

An Inner Fire by Jacki Delecki is the first book in her Grayce Walters series and was a great introduction to this series. I had previously read MEN UNDER FIRE via NetGalley and enjoyed it so much that I knew I wanted to start at the beginning.

Dr. Grayce Walters is a vet who does animal acupuncture. She has a strong intuitive ability which helps her in her healing of the pets who come to her. Her intuitive skills grow during this book which leads to a touch of paranormal throughout the book. Lt. Ewan Davis is a fire investigator who is all about logic and facts. Yet when they meet the connection is instanteous. The main secondary characters are James, Grayce's best friend, Hollie, Grayce's receptionist and Mitzi, Ewan's standard poodle. I loved James! He was a fun character and very likable. Mitzi was an amazing guard dog and canine companion for both Grayce and Ewan. All of the characters are complex with layers that I am sure will be revealed as this series progresses.

The mystery had enough twists to keep me turning the pages. Action, murder, fiery hot romance, and characters that are so much more than what you see on the surface kept me reading until the reveal. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

An entertaining and fast paced book for a stormy day. Great characters and plot. I especially liked having Seattle as the setting for An Inner Fire. Can't wait to have another adventure with Grayce, Davis, and Mitzi. A great read.

I got this book as a free download and was really hoping I would just love it, since it had everything I like in a book. A location I know, mystery, pets and of course some hunky firefighters and a promising heroine with paranormal skills. It started off at a good pace and some action but I found myself getting more and more irritated at the interactions of the two main characters. They seemed to run hot and cold, which normally would work except he was acting like such a jerk that I would have left him in the dust long ago. The mystery part was a tad predictable but it still held my interest and I liked some of the other characters very much, especially the four legged kind. I won't be following the series at the moment, maybe I will revisit it in the future.

Easy to read. Lots of tension, the romance-to-be was obvious but the mystery was good for some time. Looks like this might be a series. I don't like series where the first book doesn't have a "real" ending, but this one isn't like that. I would read the next one.

This book grabs it's reader by the collar and takes them on a wild, fun, and suspenseful ride. True to life characters and a story that kept my curiosity engaged made it difficult to put this book down. Not to mention Jacki's easy to connect with wtiting style. Left me looking forward to the next adventure with Grace and Mitzy. What a great read!

I am a Standard Poodle owner and lover! To read a book with a Poodle as one of the main characters was a lot of fun. The story is good and the characters are likable. The story has a mystical touch as well. I really enjoyed it, especially Mitzi. Sometime I think my Poodle can read my mind!
