Heroes of the extreme metal scene, there has always been so much more to Celtic Frost’s music. From ‘Morbid Tales’, through ‘To Mega Therion’, onwards to ‘Into The Pandemonium’ and finally ‘Vanity/Nemesis’, this is a band who refused to conform or follow any specific musical direction. They experimented, took risks and in the process have left behind a remarkable catalogue which is timeless and extraordinary. When you hear these albums, you’ll appreciate why succeeding generations of diehard fans and cutting edge bands are so heavily inspired and influenced by Celtic Frost. Timeless music, timely albums. This best of release includes new sleevenotes, an extensive booklet and the art direction of the release was done by the man behind Celtic Frost, Tom G. Warrior. It almost seems churlish to regard Celtic Frost as one of the great extreme metal bands, because they were so much more than that. It’s better to hail them as among the finest extreme and experimental bands of the 1980s. Refusing ever to do what was expected or demanded, the band constantly changed musical direction, always brought in surprising influences, and kept people guessing as to where they might venture next. Their catalogue of albums is formidable and unmatched. Each is not only unique, but part of an entire tapestry that only now can be appreciated for being a remarkable part of music history. Despite, or maybe because of, constant turmoil on so many fronts, Celtic Frost achieved an artistic level few others would even have dared to dream of aspiring towards. They climbed high because they were never afraid to fall. Which is why the band are now rightly regarded as icons, and iconoclasts.

Released with the 2017 Noise Records era Celtic Frost reissues, this 27 track 2-CD best-of is a must-have for the Celtic Frost completest. I won't split hairs over the track selection. Most of the songs belong and only a handful don't. The reason to buy Innocence and Wrath (a song which oddly enough doesn't appear on the CD) is the gorgeous packaging. Like all of the 2017 reissues, the CD opens like a book and is loaded with relevant photos and imagery as well as some nice commentary by Kerrang's Malcolm Dome. A quality release for one of the most fascinating and original bands of the golden age of Metal. 5 stars! \m/ \m/
Caeer. Highly recommend.
For completists and people who are just getting into the old Frost stuff its well worth it. Most of the best tracks are here, especially the ones from 'Therion' and 'Morbid Tales' which are well represented in this set.
Good addition, not a worthless money grab. The stuff still sounds great today and the remaster on this makes it worth it for us old fans as well.
Too bad Tom still disregards Cold Lake in the liner notes even though he's an old man with a storied life that should be embraced. All those omitted sleazy songs are rippers and unique and should be acknowledged. I enjoy them as much as Pantera's Power Metal, only for the true Heavy Metal People you know who you are. The right people aren't whispering in his ears but there are many fans of Cold Lake, probably more young people than old!

Otherwise, this set is fine. I own all the new remasters and bought this to have Idols of Chagrin and Under Apollyon's Sun. They're listed as of my posting. It may change once this is discovered.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Oh.... if you go to Amazon.uk.co, a photo of the back of the set is there and shows the track listing I noted above.
Sorry for the bad review, but I'm trying to help others if they're buying this for songs that aren't actually on the set.
