Short of using gallium which leaves nasty stains (and is a pain to work with),
this IC Diamond paste seems to be a massive improvement over other thermal pastes
I've used, including the popular Arctic Silver.

Before:
---------------
I run an overclocked i7 920 at 3.6 GHz using a Noctura NH-U12P "special edition" heatsink.
I originally used the Noctura thermal paste that came with the cooler. Idle temps were taken at the desktop, load was taken after 15min of Prime 95. Room temperature was approximately 22c-23c. All temperatures were measured using PC Wizard 2010.

Idle:
core 1: 42-45c
core 2: 40-43c
core 3: 44-46c
core 4: 38-41c

Load:
core 1: 75-81c
core 2: 74-80c
core 3 74-82c
core 4: 71-77c

Again this was using the thermal paste provided with the Nocutra.

After:
--------------------

I applied the IC Diamond using the recommended method of applying a small bead to the center of the processor and allowing the pressure of the heatsink to spread the thermal paste (no credit card or finger needed!). I then allowed the paste to settle for about 30min before standing the computer back up.

Idle:
core 1: 37-42c
core 2: 39-40c
core 3: 38-41c
core 4: 36-39c

Load:
core 1: 63-65c
core 2: 63-64c
core 3 65-67c
core 4: 66-67c

Conclusion:
----------------------

While the temperature drop at idle was not all that significant, the temperature
drop at load was substantial! On some of the cores the difference was
10c or more! I was highly impressed to say the least. Also keep in mind the
i7s and quad cores in general tend to run very hot.

I purchased this item from Amamax. It came "bare", no instruction card, not a carded item like you would get from MicroCenter or other retailers. The tube is not sealed in any way; who knows if you are getting a full 1.5 grams worth. Since I have used the product before, I knew how to use it. For those of you without instructions, take a coffee cup half-filled with hot water (nuked for 90 seconds or so). Make sure the tube cap is on tight, stand the tube in hot water for at least a minute to soften the stuff. The water level should not be so high that water can leak into the top of the tube along side the plunger! (The good part: this stuff is thick, not like cheaper, thin and runny compound!) Squeeze a dab of the stuff on top of your CPU. (The CPU and mating heat sink must be clean and dry!). The instructions (if you get them!) say to use a "pea size" dab of compound. That may be too much. I'd use 1/2-pea's worth! After placing the dab, carefully put your heat sink, carefully centered, down on to the CPU. Apply moderate pressure while rotating the heat sink left and right a few times to distribute the stuff. (it also helps if you warm up the heat sink with a hair dryer.) Clamp down the heat sink. (It might be difficult to lock the clamp, especially if you used too much compound.) As you use the computer, the CPU will heat up and the compound will distribute itself further.

I own a fat 60GB PS3 and it is working fine. I even fully disassembled it a few months back to clean it up from dust and what not. What I didn't do was replacing the factory thermal paste applied to the CPU & GPU (which sucks big time by the way).

I was really worried to get a YLOD as a result of that crappy factory paste (now that I've seen it for myself).

After a lot of research and praises for the Arctic Silver 5, I was just about to place an order when I found out by accident about the IC Diamond 7, reading the description and a few reviews on it immediately made me go for it.

I cleaned the factory paste in my PS3 with the Arcti Clean 1&2 Kit, and applied it.

Now, people were controversial on how to apply thermal pastes in general. Just follow the method in the IC Diamond 7 website; put a dab on the middle of the chip with an average diameter of 5 - 5.5 mm and let the compression of the heat sink do the spreading. Make sure the amount is not too little or too much.

For the 1st two to 3 hours I kept my PS3 in the horizontal position just to be sure the spreading goes perfectly fine.

RESULTS: My PS3 now is waaay quieter than before, the fan kicks in high gear when the system's absolutely in its peak performance. I'm really impressed with this paste and I'd recommend it to all PS3 owners who would like to take this preventive step before YLOD hits their systems.

I used to swear by this stuff and I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced cheese. It's a little bit difficult to apply but I got low temps with this stuff. This was way back in 2011-2012 when I was big into watercooling.

This paste pitted the hell out of the IHS on my 3930k. They aren't huge pits like the in the pictures on TPU. These are smaller pits that are the size of a grain of sand. There were several of these smaller pits. I left the waterblock on the CPU for 4 years though. However, I assume it was a collection of diamonds that pitted the IHS on my CPU, not really the time I had left it on.

I wasn't too alarmed by this because I had recently done research on TIM because it's been years since I have bought any. I wanted to see if a better product had come out to the market. So I knew about this problem before I pulled the waterblock off my CPU. However to my defense, because I know the Innovative Cooling company will almost troll to defend their product, I have pulled the heatsink/waterblock of my CPU and graphics cards a couple dozen times. I have used AS5, MX-2, and Shin-Etsu in the past and I never had anything pit or damage the IHS of any of my processors.

Back in 2011 I jumped on the IC Diamond bandwagon because of the awesome benchmark results I've seen on other sites. As far as performance goes it beats the best version of Shin-Etsu by a degree or two depending on how successful you apply the paste. Personally I saw a 3c-4c difference between the IC Diamond 7 compound and the MX-2. Not all Thermal compounds are the same and when you're overclocking to the moon it's important to keep the temps as low as possible because a 3c difference can be make it or break it. I had a Core i7-2600k that could do 4.
