If this book was trimmed to 40-60 pages it'd be perfect. There are summary sections. I'd recommend reading those. If you want to know the history and thought process behind his conclusions, read the rest.

This book is a collection of facts and figures about the disk drive industry. It is way too long and the writing is a bit thick. He does make a few interesting points, as do all of these books, but it is so long and drawn out and stuck in between all of the facts and graphs about disk drives and other industries that it is difficult to separate. This seems to read to me more like history of the disk drive industry rather than a book on business strategy. Non of the essential questions mentioned on the back cover are answered. I am not sure why this book got such good reviews. The basic idea is that companies who are entrenched in a certain technology often prosper only at maintaining the technology as opposed to being the trailblazers of newer disruptive technologies. New companies, in his opinion, are much better at and have succeeded much more so in the development of these new technologies. His case is clearly spelled out and is hard to argue with, it just seems to me that he too quite a circuitous route to make the case. Also, as I mentioned before, it does not quite address the fundamental questions indicated on the covers. He seems to have taken more of a historical perspective. This book was not for me.

I'm only a couple chapters in, but it has been a very boring read. After all the hype I was excited about this book. Other books like Zero to One, The Art of the Start, and Linchpin, all had something this book didn't... humor, flare, and wit. I'm unsure why it received such praise, other than a bunch of hard data it presents in so many line graphs.

If you are looking for a read to put you to sleep, start with this book. After a few pages about the statistical analysis of the old hard drive industries, I assure you, you will be sleeping in no time!

This is my first review ever, but I wish I could've seen my review before wasting my time and money. With all of the hype surrounding this book, including numerous personal recommendations, I must say that it was one of the worst presentations of information I've ever experienced. There is so much data within the text that I found myself wanting to skim through the pages just to find Christensen's main points. It was a very boring read compared to some similar books out there. Overall, the book has valuable information, but I would suggest finding a free summary online rather than wasting your time rummaging through this book for a takeaway.

One of those books that should have been 40 pages… But somehow turned into 200+ . Lots of case studies and irrelevant filler in my opinion. Its well written, but again just gluttonous overall. No need to purchase, I would just skim this bad boy at the library, and you will get the gist of it. The overall principal is sound, but it's kinda common sense..

Too boring to read, full of data and stats, each chapter repeats the main points from the introduction with yet more unreadable data. Good ideas, good research, badly written book.

I can't even make it though the introduction. I'm not an idiot but this book makes me feel like I'm trying to understand a doctoral thesis where there really isn't a sound premise. Not light reading and I'm not sure where all of the positive reviews came from but I should have read the example. Oh wait, there isn't one - probably by design.
