SUPER LIGHT TRAILTALON 235, DESIGNED FOR SPEED AND GRIP
The super-lightweight TRAILTALON 235 is designed for fast running on all types of trails around the world, this update to the TRAILTALON series delivers the perfect, flexible fit with increased protection and support. New features include an external heel cage at the rear for more support and a welded film toe bumper at the front for enhanced protection. The men's version is available in a vibrant blue and a grey and red version.
SUPERIOR TRAIL TRACTION
Multi-directional 4mm deep studs, each with a wide contact area, provide aggressive grip, excellent stability and the quick release of any debris. Using three sticky rubber compounds on the outsole increases grip and durability. The hardest, most durable rubber is on the heel, with a medium rubber up the centre for increased traction and a softer rubber on the edges for grip and security with every stride.
Powerflow midsole delivers 10% better shock absorption and 15% better energy return than standard midsoles.
A new welded film toe bumper shields the toes from sharp rocks and stones, while a gusseted tongue prevents debris from entering the shoe. Stay protected II: On-the-shoe gaiter hooks offer a more secure attachment system that allows you to attach a ALL TERRAIN GAITER to the shoe.
The new lightweight, breathable upper material helps deliver a better fit and more flexibility than the previous model.

INOV-8 SIZE GUIDE
We have graded the fit of all our shoes from 1 to 5 to make it easy for you to find the perfect fitting shoe. All our shoes are designed with Met-Cradle technology to lock down the mid-foot for a stable hold. Where they differ is in the toe box. Grade 1 represents our closest, most precise fit. At the other end of the scale, Grade 5 has the widest fitting toe box.
We have meticulously studied the foot and its function during the gait cycle and also the interaction between the foot and the terrain. We have used this knowledge to develop our fitting scale. For technical footwear a good fit is essential to enhance your performance.
The lower the number on our scale, the narrower the fit, which ensures minimal internal movement of the foot when running fast on technical terrain. Shoes with the higher numbers on our scale will suit athletes with a wider foot and those wanting that extra comfort in the toe box. This wider toe box allows the toes to splay for increased stability when lifting heavy weights. It’s also perfect for longer runs and races when toes begin to swell.
As a rough guide, Grade 1 represents an industry B fit, while Grade 5 equates to a 2E fit in the forefoot.
Designed for fast running on all types of trails around the world, the updated TRAILTALON 235 now delivers the perfect, flexible fit with increased protection and support. New features include an external heel cage at the rear for more support and a welded film toe bumper at the front for enhanced protection.

For background, I'm a long time runner, mix of trails and road, but I have always only used road shoes, even for OCR races. I like to run fast-ish, 17:30 5k to 1:20 half marathon, and I wear light racing flats with low drop for just about everything even up to 20 miles. I mention this for two reasons: 1) pace matters. You really can't compare the performance of a shoe while running 6 min/mile vs 9 min/miles. I'm sure if I ran an easier pace on trail I would be less demanding of a shoe. 2) I'm used to racing flats, which are about as comfortable and form fitting a shoe as I've ever worn. You can't expect a trail shoe to match that.
I'm not expecting the Trailtalon to perform like a racing flat, but I still expect to be able to run a long trail run it comfortably. For a first test run I took them out for a 20-ish mile trail run at a comfortably hard pace - one I knew I could keep for 20 miles but still pushed myself. For the first 10 miles I was trying to decide whether the added mass and impact of the lugs were a worthwhile tradeoff for a little bit better traction; and I informally concluded that it might be, especially if it was muddy or the dirt was softer. But when running uphill the lack of support put considerable strain on my arch, something I've never experienced with road shoes. By mile 12 the pain in my arch was substantial and I expect it was disrupting my stride, because by mile 15 I was in considerable pain and even had to walk down a hill I usually sprint down (which was kind of the point of having trail running shoes). I was limping by mile 18 and called it a day.
As I mentioned, it was a first run, so maybe the shoes take some time to break in; I'm used to racing flats being good from mile 1. Perhaps they would be fine for short distance (< 10 miles). My next couple of runs in the 235s will be shorter and maybe I'll find a place for them in my quiver, but right now they're sitting over in the corner in a time out.
Excellent looking shoe
Quality is superb
Very grippy especially in the wet / grass
Very subjective, but do have more achilles issues
Had to use with gel heel insert
(Do have this issue with Inov 8 shoes)
I really like the overall look and feel of the shoe when I slipped them on. It is just above a minimalist design which doesn't give you the barefoot feel, but also doesn't go far to protect your feet from a gnarly rock riddled trail. I was hoping to use the shoe to manage both hard and soft trails so i didn't want a deep tread either. This shoe delivered on every expectation. I took them for their first spin in South Utah/Northern Arizona by hiking a 50+ mile route in the Paria Slot Canyons and along the Vermilion Cliffs. We met all types of terrain including asphalt, hard packed dirt, rock, sand, mud, and water while carrying 35-40lb hiking packs. Typically these adventures are somewhat rough on my feet, but this shoe managed to keep my feet in top condition. The fit had to be good because we moved through areas with knee deep mud. The fit had to be comfortable (no sliding in the shoe) as we waded through the Paria river time and time again with rock fields in-between. With how vulnerable the feet must have been, being wet for several hours on end, I'm surprised I came away with only one blister. The shoe drained very quickly after being submerged, and dried fairly quick in the desert sun. When we went on short day runs in the canyon I could feel the air move through the top mesh of the shoe. The feeling was great. The only downside with the airiness of the shoe is that the sand from the riverbed easily settled inside the shoe in awkward placed that made walking uncomfortable after several miles. The grip was impressive. I didn't have any issues with navigating the terrain, even when steep and wet rock was involved. The shoe held up perfectly to all of the elements and will be my shoe of choice on the next adventure. Overall, I would have to recommend this shoe, and will likely be purchasing the newer model once this shoe meets its end.
These basically feel like nothing on my feet
Cushion is good and my feet feel great in them.
When I buy shoes online the no go issue is usually a loose heel area and these feel secure without being too tight.
I’ll likely try more offerings from Inov8

I love my trail talons .
Slightly hooked on Inov8 products as functional, look great but now more expensive - there's a reason for this though...
