Cons: There is very little cushioning. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. It lets one feel the terrain and walk quietly. For a hunter this could be an awesome boot. However for long hikes and rocky terrain the lack of cushion can become irritating. I actually bought inserts that had a bit more cushion. Rocks: In rocky terrain with smaller rocks you can definitely feel them. The stays and the footbed does not cushion them. Again, for a speed hiker, ultralight backpacker, racer, this may just be the ticket. Just be aware. Again this fits a niche and the boot is good in that niche. Light, waterproof, comfortable, quiet, and semi-supportive for light to medium loads. Overall... I liked it.
Other than that, these shoes are awesome, especially if you like a minimal shoe. They are extremely light, there is zero arch support (massive plus for me), completely waterproof, and not insulated, so I can stand to wear them inside and out. Also, there is minimal heel, another huge plus for me. Aggressive treads combined with the nimbleness of a minimalist shoe make for an amazing winter time shoe for me personally.
I wore them while sloshing around during and after Jonah, the East Coast mega-snow....including some short runs thru the snow covered streets and sidewalks. Dry feet, and no slipping! What more can you ask for? The only thing I can think of is a wider toe box.
Inov-8, if you read this, PLEASE release this shoe in a regular width!!!
I do love these shoes, but I have to accept that they are not very durable. I mostly don't care though, I accept it. These shoes are so light and versitile, I find I can do so much in them. They are too light though for carrying a heavy load on steep and rugged terrain. They are great for staying light and moving very fast. I even found that I started to prefer running in my original Roclites over my actual running shoes. The lack of durability issue is that the fabric tends to rip pretty easily, especially in the crease area on the toe box. This is a high performance higher priced shoe with a limited life expectancy. You should not be buying these if you think you are buying a boot that you will wear for 10 yrs.
