I was not disappointed by either the smooth writing style or the amount of helpful information. The authors are sincere and believable because they, too, have earned online degrees so can clearly tell the story from both the students' and instructors' point of view. All that Myers-Wylie wrote is authentic and exactly the way she treated her online students and managed her responsibilities. The authors confirm what online students want and need from instructors to successfully manage their online courses---an available, knowledgeable, and caring facilitator. They also discuss and chart what it takes to be that kind of online instructor: genuine understanding, tight time management abilities, and exceptional organizational skills. A traveling laptop is also imperative to do a quality job.
The authors also clearly discuss how to go about seeking employment, what to expect in hours required, and compensation.
I will never again avoid online instruction, but I learned that I may lack the organizational gifts necessary to step out of the classroom. This book would be helpful to know if such a teaching path is for you.
