I've been a fan of Mark's for a long time and with each album he continues to set the bar higher and higher. In a world full of soulless pentatonic wannabe's who have learned the notes but wouldn't know the blues if it bit them, Mark's playing is a breath of fresh air. While drawing on all the greats, he brings his own updated signature sound to these tunes. Always remaining true to the tradition and essence of the blues, he pulls off one of the hardest things for any blues man to accomplish, he simultaneously coaxes them into the future. Listen to the way he's not afraid to meld his blues with non-traditional and even world musical motifs, and then think about how many other guitarists could pull that off. My guess is you'll be hard pressed to name more than a few yet Mark does it effortlessly! But make no mistake, these are real blues and every note he plays is full of emotion and from the heart. There is no showboating or wasted empty posturing here, not one note without intent. If you know Mark's previous work, you'll love how he continues to take his special brand of blues into the future. If you're just discovering this incredibly talented guitarist, I can't think of a better place to start.
