Best friends since the age of two, Devin, Ayden & Angelina were practically inseparable. By high school, however, tension between these three friends grew, spear-headed (in part) by Angelina’s unfaltering crush on Devin. But Devin’s abusive father was the catalyst to his increasingly reckless behavior, as well as the reason behind his “push and pull” relationship with Angelina. Still, the special affection these two shared was blatantly apparent to Ayden, making him feel like an outsider to their previously close-knit circle. Thus, Ayden allowed jealousy to drive his ensuing actions, which created a wedge between his two best friends and enabled him to claim Angelina for himself.
The situation eventually goes from bad to worse, with Devin disappearing, and Ayden and Angelina’s romantic relationship deteriorating over time. And just when Devin resurfaces and is ready to win back the girl who should rightfully be his, tragedy strikes unexpectedly, causing irreparable damage all around.
Flash forward five years, and we are shocked to discover just how much Angelina has lost her way. But Devin’s unwavering love, devotion and patience is the key to helping Angelina find her way back—back to a life where their HEA might still be possible. Still, the road to happiness is paved with major bumps along the way. And Angelina fears that one of those bumps—her biggest secret, thus far—just might push Devin away for good. But it’s Aiden’s long-held secret that they’ll ultimately find most devastating, in the wake of its eventual reveal.
Without a doubt, “Inseparable” is nothing short of a roller coaster ride of emotions. Tackling a multitude of difficult subjects, I commend author Siobhan Davis for bringing to light such relevant issues. That said, I was often frustrated at the total lack of communication amongst these three best friends. At one time or another, Devin, Ayden & Angelina each chose to remain silent when they should have spoken up. And with each act of silence, the outcome was met with disastrous results.
Notorious for writing controversial stories with imperfect, multi-faceted, characters, Siobhan Davis hits that mark again with “Inseparable,” giving us a complex story with a dysfunctional trio that is bound to tug at your heartstrings. Despite the fact these characters were often their own worst enemy, I felt deeply for each of them and for all that they had endured.
Divided into three parts and told in alternating point-of-views, “Inseparable” is a raw and gritty “friends-to-lovers” triangle that’s both frustrating AND addictive. Riddled with emotional highs and lows, this latest full length novel by Siobhan Davis takes readers on a tumultuous and impactful journey that their not likely to forget.
