While I understand people being upset about the collectors edition they're putting out for this book early next month ($90 here on Amazon) and the exclusion of Direwolves, that for me doesn't detract from the greatness of this book. The hardcover is clean and intricate, the page layout is beautiful and it's a good sized book. The amount of depth and details are great, the pictures pop with color and detail and it's a great book to add to my collection. For the price, the content and the look, it's a great book for any fan of Game Of Thrones to get and I highly recommend it to any fan of the series. I got this with the A Feast Of Ice And Fire Cookbook and it's a great companion to have with that book as well.

*The clamshell it comes in is very nice. The foil stamp is shiny gold and the clamshell itself is heavy and a burgundy leather like case. The Game Of Thrones gold foil stamp is immaculate and printed to perfection with no chips or imperfections and seems well made. It opens and closes easily, seems to be pretty nice quality. It is not wood but a high quality cardboard.
*The storyboard booklet is also hardcover and 192 pages. Some with color, some without. Pretty standard but it's nice to see scenes storyboarded that were ultimately omitted from their respective episodes. It opens and closes with a ribbon that ties.
*Two maps, 11" x 22" printed on acid free paper. Not quite parchment, but still pretty nice. Worth framing and not tacking to a wall. If you lay something heavy on them for a few weeks, you'll be able to get the curve out of the maps incase you do want to hang or frame them. I will keep mine in the clamshell. The detail and print is really great.

Winter is indeed coming. I had purchased the standard edition for a friend as a gift and paged through it. I like that it covers season 1 and season 2, as I thought it might only cover the first season. I liked it so much I wanted to get a copy for just myself, but I wanted this collector's edition. Amazon just dropped the price form $90 to $60, well worth the price of an additional $40 above the standard edition price to get the maps of Essos and Westeros, the storyboards and the clamshell. Also, I should note that the book itself as well as the storyboard book sit in the clamshell on top of each other and fit in it tightly, so it is a bit hard to get them out. Which is better than fitting too loosely which would result in dinged book edges and corners. There is a ribbon attached in the case to use as pull tab to get out the books. Not to mention the face plate signed by Bryan Cogman (NOTE, this is only for the first 200 pre-orders, all others will not come with a singed faceplate) who has now written an episode for each the first and second season. This is a must for any fan of the show and any fan of collecting.

(The following is BASICALLY the same review I recently wrote for "Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2", but I believe it is worth re-posting for this edition of the book, because much of the information may be useful to persons who are considering purchasing this edition. While I will be referring to "Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2" in the review, as you will see, that actually turns out to be irrelevant. I will also add a few comments concerning this Collector's Edition specifically at the end...)

First of all, let me start by saying that this is actually more than a two star book, but I am rating it two stars to draw attention to a VERY major flaw in this version of the book, one that every other reviewer, both here on Amazon, and everywhere else, seems to completely overlook, to my complete astonishment.

If you are unaware, there are multiple versions of this book. This book was originally released as “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones”. That book was later replaced by the version being reviewed here, “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2”. There is also a “Collector's Edition” version of this book. A companion volume, “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 3 & 4” has also been published.

I became interested in finding out what was the difference between “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones” and “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2”. If you had the first book, was it worth purchasing the 'revised' version? Which of the two versions came in the “Collector's Edition”?

I am completely serious when I say that coming to the conclusions I will present in this review took a major amount of research, which often led in circles. For those of you who wish to avoid the messy details (which will follow), I will jump straight to the punchline: THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE between “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones” and “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2”! “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2” DOES NOT COVER SEASON 2 except for 4 PAGES! “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2” has episodes guides for season 1 but NO EPISODE GUIDES FOR SEASON 2! THE BOOK WAS SIMPLY RENAMED (and actually, NOWHERE IN THE BOOK is it CALLED “: Seasons 1 & 2”) to fool people into THINKING it covered season two and apparently IT WORKED!

“Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2” has episode guides for season 1. “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 3 & 4” has episode guides for seasons 3 and 4. EPISODE GUIDES FOR SEASON 2 DO NOT EXIST IN THESE BOOKS! HOW CAN THIS BE?

Now, for anyone interested in more detail...

I should state that I own the Amazon Collector's Edition version of the book(which I should be shown as a “Verified Purchase”), the “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2” version, confirmed by the ISBN, and I also have the Kindle/mobi version of the book. The book that comes in the Collector's Edition is exactly the same as the Season 1 & 2 version, except that it has gilt page edges. The Kindle/mobi version of the book contains the same content as the print versions of the books.

“Inside HBO's Game of Thrones” is 192 pages. It is a FACT (and has been confirmed by a VERY helpful Amazon Support person) that “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2” is ALSO 192 pages. This is despite the fact that the HBO Shop lists it as BOTH 192 pages AND 243 pages! I questioned the HBO shop about this some months ago and they confirmed for me that the book is 192 pages, but as of this date, they continue to list both page counts for the book (which is just another reason you buy from Amazon!). The HBO Shop ALSO lists the book as having an “8-page full-color gatefold”... I have NEVER seen a version of the book with this gatefold and don't believe it exists. This is PURELY speculation on my part, but I wonder if the "Season 1 & 2" version of the book was PLANNED to be 243 pages and include an 8-page full-color gatefold, but for whatever reason (successfully I might add) they just decided to rename the original book?

Another way we can confirm that there is no difference between the books is by looking at the Kindle version, but I discovered today that even that opens another odd can of worms. If you click “Look Inside” for “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2”, you will be told, “This view is of the Kindle book. A preview of the print book (Hardcover edition) is currently not available.” However, if you go to the page for the Kindle version of the book, which is listed as, “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 1 & 2 [Kindle Edition]” and click “Look Inside”, you will be told, “This view is of the Kindle edition (2014) from Gollancz. The Kindle Edition edition (2012) from Chronicle Books LLC that you originally viewed is the one you'll receive if you click 'Buy With 1-Click' on the left.” The link for the “Kindle edition (2014) from Gollancz” leads to a page for a Kindle edition titled “Inside HBO's Game of Thrones [Kindle Edition]” and pricing information is unavailable. NOW... if you can follow that, you are better than at this than me! But ultimately, the point is, if you look at the Kindle version, you will see that it has NO season 2 episode guides, just 2 chapters (4 pages) that deal with season 2 (“Qarth & The Red Waste” and “Costuming Qarth”)... exactly the same as BOTH versions of the print book.

Towards the end of my research I finally reached the point where I contacted the author, Bryan Cogman, through Facebook and provided him a detailed explanation of my confusion about the difference between the two versions of the book and asked if he could provide any information in order to clear these questions up. He never responded. Of course, I don't suppose this should surprise me... If I had just renamed a book that I had already written to fool people into thinking it had been 'revised' or 'updated', I wouldn't go around bragging about that fact either...

So, am I making too much of this? I personally purchased TWO copies of this book because I was MISLEAD by the TITLE into thinking I was going to receive UPDATED content that DOES NOT EXIST! However, based on the fact that it apparently bothers NOBODY else, it would certainly seem so, but hey, if this review proves useful for ONE other person, then it will have been worthwhile!

IN REGARDS TO THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION ITSELF: It is quite nice, I won't comment on it too much as others have already covered that. What I want to mention is the crazy Amazon pricing policy on this Collector's Edition (and let me be PERFECTLY clear, anytime I say anything that may sound negative towards Amazon, that does not negate the fact that I consider them the UNDISPUTED LEADER of internet sales customer service and I LOVE THEM, but that won't stop me from calling it as I see it...) When I purchased my copy of this Collector's Edition from Amazon, they were actually selling FOR LESS than the plain book itself! And this was not some special sale, that price was available for quite some time and blew the price of all third party sellers out of the water. The next thing you know, Amazon raises their price on this to $90.00, which is too high and is blown out of the water by all the third party sellers. Sometimes, Amazon's pricing policies REALLY make no sense to me! (But HEY, as I write this I noticed it is a GOLD BOX deal for something like $56.00!) I suppose their methods are just beyond my comprehension! ;)

I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan and the HBO series just adds a new aspect to my obsession. It was heavier than I expected - definitely not like some other cheaply made collector edition items that I've gotten for other things. The box gives you the feeling of having something special!

My only complaint is with the leather bound book. It seems as if the darker inks were not allowed sufficient drying time. In my lovely leather bound book, pages that are basically text on white pages are fine, but anything that has a larger picture in the lower center of the book are stuck together. I tried to gently pry apart two of these pages, but it definitely feels like the ink just wasn't dry and the pages peeled apart onto each other. Flipping through the book, it does appear that ALL the darker pages are stuck together along the bottom 2 inches from center of the bind. From what I can see, the pictures are beautiful, and I love the information on things like where the costuming ideas came from, etc. I'd be interested to know if this is just with my particular book or if there are more out there with this issue.

The storyboard book, other than a bit of wrinkling on the inner paper cover, was in perfect condition. I've always been a bit jealous of people who can draw and have other people understand what they were making a picture of so it is very interesting to me.

The maps are basically paper. With the leather cover of the picture book, I guess I expected a little more weight to the maps. It may be worth laminating them for longer life.

If you are a Game of Thrones fan like me, you'll love this collector's edition.

Ok, this book/set is very expensive. And, it is geared more to the watchers of the HBO series than the readers of the books (not that us readers won't enjoy it, still). There's also a bonus storyboard here.

But those glorious FULL maps!!! Badly needed, for readers or viewers. Unsurpassed.

Really high quality through-out. But pretty pricey even so.

Perfect for a gift, but once you see the maps you won't want to give it away!

This was a gift for my girlfirend. We did have to return the first one. It would appear that this product had an assembly line issue with ink not drying fast enough. The result is that the darkest pages will stick together. IT's a great coffee table book, but make sure to open yours immediately and verify that the book is a good copy. There were no issues with exchanging for a new copy.

From thd get go I have to say these books are "COLLECTOR'S BOOKS" , these are not the novels , the stories game of thrones but the "HBO" CABLE SHOW GAME OF THRONES COLLECTOR'S BOOK. The fans of the hit will love these collector's box. Some reviews say they don't want to recap the show but your not , your pulling yourself deeper into your favorite characters, as well as the characters that aren't your favorite. Getting to know them , and the actors that played those characters. The box in which these characters come in measures 12 3/4" square. The lid of the box isn't hinged but is bounded like a good quality hardback book. When opened , ther are two burgundy ribbons on opposite sides keeping the lid open but not flipping back. Inside, two separate compartments for the two maps , both measuring 11" wide × 22" in length. The second compartment holds two books , at bottom of this compartment is a ribbon strong enogh to pull it up bringing up the books , so your not pulling on the books maybe damaging them. The two books in this box, one is the storyboard book, containing storyboard drawings from episodes 1 through 20. This book measures 9 1/4" × 11 1/4" and is 3/4" thick. There are 192 numbered pages, each with the drawings that made the show. These pages almost have the feel of construction paper but smoother. The book is a hardcover , with burgundy ribbon attached on the front and back cover to tie the book closed. Each ribbon is 9" long, plenty for tying. The second book ;
" INSIDE HBO's GAME OF THRONES" measures the same as the storyboard book, but it's front and back covers are padded. It to has 192 numbered pages, with beautiful glossy filled photos of scenes from the show . Again this book tells you all about the specific characters , their background, family history. Your learning about these characters, even more than you might remember from the episodes. So maybe that's why some reviews used the word "recap" . I like to use the phrase catching up. If your a fan of the show , turning the pages of these books takes you back to that scene . Sure you can turn on HBO GO and watch it again , but I love to feel it , talk about the show to friends and family and these books help with their experiences. I'm sorry , I can't say enough about them . I love books, I'm old school, I grew up with heidi, the prince & the pauper , black beauty, and treasure island , but it was always by turning pages from these books , which I still own. Please forgive my babbling, 📚THANKS FOR READING, BYE 📚

I got mine yesterday and everything looks great except for the maps. When I took them out to make sure they were in good condition (didn't unroll them), one of the ends of the roll were smashed and the edge of the outer map was ripped on either side of the tape. Not very happy about that. Anybody else have this problem?
