"A thoroughly enjoyable read."

About the Author

Saul spent his formative years in a creaky century-old house overlooking the Erie Canal in Upstate New York. His bedroom was a refurbished attic, which he shared with all manner of creatures, not all, he is convinced, flesh and blood.

After bouncing around the US and Europe, he settled down to pursue a career in the sciences, opting to study the mysteries of human molecular genetics. But even positions as an experimental biologist, teacher, manager and biotech entrepreneur could keep him from his true love: literature.

eFiction magazine calls Saul a writer armed with "a PhD and a whacked out sense of humor." He now writes speculative fiction full time from his attic-less home in the San Francisco Bay Area, which he shares with his wife, kids, four dogs, three cats, six chickens and the ocasional possum.

Format: Kindle Edition
Insomnia is certainly the right name for this collection. I wouldn’t recommend reading it late in the evening if you’re prone to nightmares. This anthology consists of seven stories, all of them of substantial length. I’m not going to list the details of each story, because I hate being told all about a short story before I read it. Each of them has been previously published separately. No doubt there are detailed spoiler reviews of each story available on Amazon, if you’re so inclined to read them.

Of the seven, the only one I would not call scary is “A Thing for Zombies.” That one is a horror story of the sad kind, and is just a little funny as well. The remaining six are either horror or paranormal tales. A couple of them have elements of both genres. They’re all spooky and entertaining. My favorite is The Scenario Egg. I found that one extra intriguing, and it’s the only one I’d call science fiction.

These stories would be right at home in The Twilight Zone. I enjoyed all of them. Read with the lights on.
