Insta360 Nano is so easy to use - basically one button operation. Easier than GoPro. Once you put in MicroSD card (I use a 64GB), you can shoot without it being attached to your iPhone. It uses 2x 210-degree lenses to stick together a 360-degree image, almost magic-like. I could not imagine it worked better. When I walked around London with it taking photos and video, I was stopped several times with people asking me what this is. When I showed them the 360 images, I can see their jaws drop!
Once Insta360 is connected to my iPhone 6 Plus, it automatically downloads the images to your phone. You can then export / post the 360 picture to Facebook. Facebook automatically detects this being a 360-degree image, and activates the 360 viewer where your friends can turn their phones and see your environment. It's just like they are there with me! (well almost). Many friends asked me how I did it. Between Facebook and ad-hoc demos in London, I think I sold more than 10 Insta360s to my friends and random people.
After coming home I attached the phone to my VR goggle (basically a plastic Google Cardboard) and here I am, in my kitchen, reliving London in all its 360-degree glory!!! I was amazing how much I would have missed taking a picture from just one angle, even though I also have my EOS M2 with a 11mm lens on it. However, I did still take many hundreds of pics on the M2 (great camera btw) just because the Insta360 image quality just isn't as good as M2 with its APS-C sensor. But for what it does, it does so well.
I'm so glad I purchased it for the trip because now I have memories of London - Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, British Museum, Buckingham Palace - all in 360.
I can't remember the last time I spent about $200 for a lens or an accessory and had as much fun with it. Get it as soon as you can!!
(My sample images doesn't do the 360 pictures justice, but trust me, when posted onto FB it takes on a whole new dimension.)
I'm removing 1 star for a couple of reasons. The first is that I don't know of any way to backup and save the files, then get them back into the insta360 app without actually having the camera. I'd like to have a way to store the pictures and especially large video files and then get them back in at some future point or even have a separate 360 viewing app. The other reason I voted down on this is the video quality isn't the greatest. If you're just viewing this on your phone screen and holding it at arms length, the quality is fun and looks good, but looking through a VR viewer makes it look pretty pixelated.
To end on a positive note though because I really do like this camera, everyone loves the results and seeing the pictures posted on social media because they can get a real feeling for where you are. When you're standing on top of a mountain and just see a traditional picture it's difficult to get a sense of scale, but you really can see that when you see these images. When you're standing on the edge of a cliff, people can see the images and get a sense of excitement along with you.
Top international reviews
I hope that an update to the IOS app would not default to fisheye view.
-Small, easy to carry around
-very sleek looking
-designed to work directly with iphone using lightning connector
-Does not integrate directly to Google Street View.
-Drains batter very quickly
-Gets very hot
-Not compatible with a phone case.
As far as quality of the image and video goes, it's awesome.
I mainly bought this so I could take better 360 photos for Google Streetview. The live streaming feature is a bonus, I haven't played with that yet, but most of the other reviewers are giving top props for the streaming features.
Overall it's relatively easy to setup and use, battery seems decent.
I bought in February 2017 this camera to be able to film in 360 my trip. Amazon shipping was fast. I received the camera and tested it with two 64Gig memory and it worked fine. I like the Camera and I used it for a couple of days. I month after, on half of my trip, the camera stop working and recording because the camera did not want to turn on. I had to wait until my return trip to contact the technical support of the company. It's a shame because the technical support is not in the same timezone as I am, because he contact me at 3am, so they are probably in China. So to avoid having to wait a week of writing by email to a person in China, I contacted Amazon and they immediately sent me another camera. Now the second camera does not charge properly the battery . I use the Camera 5 Minutes and I can see the battery is fully charge in the iphone application. Now I poweroff the Insta360 and wait a couple of hours and can not power on because the battery charge in empty, so the Camera drain the battery itself even if it's power off and every time I want to use it, I have to charge it back before. This is really frustrating. I will be forced to call Amazon to send me another camera .... I hope the second one will be better... Grrrrr
Still picture quality is not great, could be better but then again, I am so use to the IPhone camera picture results being nice and clear.
The video quality is much better!
Like i said, if you can get it at an affordable price, then do so and have fun with the Insta360 nano.
If you can afford a higher price 360 camera, then maybe try the insta360 nano s and you can tell me how you like that!
Couple of things:
- You'll need to remove your iPhone's case before fitting this camera. Also works without a phone, if you figure out how to.
- The native app works and you'll be able to import easily.
- Not easy to share to Maps and Streetview. Maybe there's the right way to do it, but I've not dug deeper.
- You'll need to edit certain things in your desktop before publishing. Things like your face, hand and other people's faces or license numbers.
- Comes with a VR cardboard - much appreciated.
- Easy to carry in your laptop bag while traveling. Battery lasts a lifetime and the device comes in a dust pouch also used to clean the lenses.
- If you're buying in India, look for the newer models that are also less expensive.
The app however is nothing short of unusable. Upload to the server for sharing to social worked once out of five attempts. There is no clear workflow, with some of the instructions translated from the original Chinese so badly that they are unusable. There is zero customer support on the website either, with many of the support pages going to 404 not found.
Additionally, because the camera needs to be held rather than being held by a tripod, there's always a huge hand in the image. This coulb be alleviated by attempting to create a tripod holder for the iPhone.
All in all, the Theta S is a far better alternative that actually posts images directly to Facebook and has a working server. Don't waste your money on this.
I needed to buy a new camera and it was the chance to review/compare with other products again. Still, I decided to go with Insta360 Nano for the following pros
- Small and light weight
- Can do Facebook Live 360
- Attached directly to my iPhone7, very easy to view and share
- Better quality of picture, both resolution and color profile (when compared to similar products in the same range)
- Less expensive as compared to products in the same range
Muy buen producto.
