This is a review that I updated while using myself as a guinea pig to find effective lower cost alternatives to Instaflex. I first posted it on 12/5/11 because (1) I had moved past the 14-day trial period into my first full month's supply that came (with my knowledge) on the auto-fill program; and (2) I agree with the negative reviews about the cost -- $70 a month is ridiculously expensive. [Note: As of 5/25/15 the price of a 90-capsule bottle which will last 1 month is $41 -- which is still more expensive than some of the products reviewed here.] I knew a potential scam could come when I was ordering but I also knew that 14 days would not be long enough to give it a fair trial. So I used a virtual credit card available from my issuing bank that expired in 60 days. If I didn't continue to like Instaflex after a couple months I wouldn't have to cancel. There just wouldn't be a card they could bill to.

Some background: I am 68. I had an old-fashioned operation in 1966 to remove soccer-related damaged cartilege in my left knee (medial meniscectomy). By the time I reached my late 50's most of the undamaged remaining cartilege had worn away and I now have almost no cartilege in that knee (bone-on-bone contact). I have been taking various brands of Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements for about 20 years and high quality Omega-3 separately for at least 5 years. No supplements will prevent the pain that occurs when I change position when sitting and the bones in my joint shift. But supplements have been somewhat helpful in limiting the pain in walking and climbing stairs. My orthopedist has given me injections of hyaluronic acid (Orthovisc) directly into the knee which were very effective. But they are limited to once every six months and their relief only lasted me about 20 days each time.

I was not sure at first becuase I tried so many others and I was in so much pain
that I was using Motrin all the time that was very hard on my Stomach and my Doctor was having fits becuase I am on Coumadin.
My pain is in every joint in my body and I am 55 and I was feeling like I was going to
end up in a wheel chair by the time I was 60 if not before.
The first day of taking Instaflex With My Meals, that eve I laid down to watch some TV and I could feel
in my toes, fingers, knees, and just all over a warming-tingling feeling and RELIEF from the Ache, Pain and Stiffness.
I am on day Four and I now can get up out of a chair with out saying "OUCH"! and taking a minute just to get moving.
I can move around like a normal person already. It WORKS FAST!

I'm not one to write reviews usually, but this product deserves one. I was told that I needed a partial knee replacement due to loss of cartilage, which the MRI confirmed. In my case, it was almost bone on bone due to the amount I had lost. In the past I had a 2-level fusion done on my back. It seems my body doesn't do well with metal in it, as I still have constant daily pain. I was really leery of surgery that required more metal being put into place.

The surgeon gave me a cortisone shot which took away all of the swelling, but actually increased the amount of pain I was having. My theory on this: the increased fluid/swelling in the joint was the bodies way of providing some type of cushioning between the bones. With the fluid gone, more bone on bone contact, more pain.

So based on reading the reviews of others, I figured I'd give this product a try as a last ditch effort to avoid surgery. I'll be doggone if it doesn't work! I noticed some pain relief after only a week, and I'd say I'm 90% pain free now after 3 weeks. It used to be any kind of physical exertion would cause my knee to swell up to almost double in size. Not anymore, I can climb up and down a ladder again, and even kneel on it again without any pain or stiffness. I only feel it now when walking/hiking downhill, but I'm hopeful that too will go away with more prolonged use.

I highly recommend giving this a try before surgery. I've read the knee replacements are only good for 15 +/- years before wearing out, depending on post surgery activity levels. I hope anyone else that may try this will have results as good as mine!

If that's a 3 month supply and if it works as well as my stuff, it's not too bad at $60. You could buy the KAL msm + glucosamine I buy for $7.50 a month + turmeric for under $10 a month, and it would be pretty close but Instaflex does have hyaluronic acid or however you spell it. I wouldnt commit to a product with that $$$ buy-in though. Turmeric is the most amazing anti-inflammatory though and sooo cheap.

So my message is very cheap turmeric + MSM + glucosamine = probably the whole story here as far as pain relief.

I've just read a series of reviews on Instaflex--from people who have ordered the "free" sample and have been subsequently billed $74.98 each month--even though they cancelled any further deliveries after trying the sample. Instaflex itself is operating a scam. Stay away from the product. It is way over priced and from the reviews I've read does not come through with any more relief than can be obtained from an over-the-counter product from a local drugstore.
