I was initially planning on hooking this actuator directly over the existing lock rod (not using the included rod and clamp), but I didn't realize that the top of this one was rotated 90 degrees from what I initially expected; pay attention to the picture! Installation ended up being a little tricky due to the lack of room inside my door, but I made it work. The motor is fairly strong, has absolutely no trouble with my lock. Everything is sealed up more than adequately to handle being inside a car door. All in all I think this is built pretty good.
It's worth noting that the installation hardware (screws, mounting bracket, etc) included isn't *exactly* as pictured currently; it instead matches the picture for the similar Install Essentials 524N High Power Door Lock Motor, so it's got the better/more flexible brass mounting bracket, 2 speed clips, 4 large mounting screws, color-coded wires (green and blue), rubber grommet/tube for passing wires through door hinges, and of course the rod that attaches to the new actuator plus the clamp to connect it to your existing rod. Seems like an improvement.
- Use some blue threadlocker (Loctite) on the screws for the clamp, because if they loosen even slightly it'll stop working. Figure out exactly where you're going to position it first, then back the screws out (only one at a time) a turn or two and dab the threadlocker on.Read more ›
The 524T was installed as a replacement actuator for a previously installed but different model. This model and the other model had almost the exact same body and dimensionally they were the same. Therefore the existing holes worked perfectly. After installing the new unit I was thrilled at how well it performed. Honestly, the old actuator was never as powerful as this one.
This actuator is a little more expensive than other models out there, but if you are going to tear your vehicle apart to add power door locks spend the extra money and do it right the first time.

Used it for tailgate lock on my F150. Wired it into truck locks and works with key fob. Much cheaper than the kits you can buy, just need to be creative with the mounting of it. Read morePublished 23 months ago by B. Johnson
