If you didn't have an Instant pot, you could use about ANY stock pot.
This has a line marked Maximum and Minimum. If you try to turn it on before your container has enough water in it, it will give an ERROR message. Setting the time and temperature could not be easier- it's really just a matter of hitting a plus or minus sign and the next button. Once it turns on, it will heat the water up and you can see the water moving. When it reaches temperature, it will start the countdown.
Yes, Sous Vide really makes a TERRIFIC steak. Even a flat iron comes out fork tender. Use less seasoning, as they don't get lost in the cooking and this method really causes them to incorporate well with the food. The steak comes out cooked uniformly all the way through, but it looks horrid. It still has to be seared on the grill or in a grill pan to give it a nice brownness and crust.
Other than bags, you can also use the SOUS VIDE with sealed glass jars for various desserts and vegetables. There are tons of good demos of cooking /recipes on youtube.

Cooking takes longer (but 95% or so of it is hands-off, so while you have to plan ahead well, it can also be a timesaver.)
The thinner the slices of food, the faster it'll cook, though we're still talking at least 45 minutes to 10 hours. You pre-heat the water using the immersion heater, put the food in a freezer bag, and immerse the bag in the heated water for several hours while the immersion heater keeps the temperature steady. You need to make sure the water doesn't all evaporate off or the heater will automatically turn off when the water goes below the minimum mark. If you need to add water, you need to heat it to about the right temperature before adding it to the pot. Never use deionized water.
If the heater is touching the bottom of the pot, the water must be higher than the minimum mark at 2 9/10" and below the maximum mark at 4 10/16". The clamp to hold the heater to the pot is 5.5" from the bottom of the heater. This leaves 6-7.5" of the immersion heater towering above the pot. The power cord is about 36" long.

The Insta Pot is Supior to other Sous Vide cookers, it has a Supior threaded clamp as opposed to a plastic clam shell clamp.
I bought 16 of these as gifts for my family.
I have told/showed/cooked for dozens of people since I purchased my first one in August 2019 at $130 at a store. I purchased the rest at $89 on AMAZON.
I should have bought more at $89 and marked up the price as every one I have cooked for has gone out and purchased one from somewhere.
Most couldn't wait 3 days and bought in the sores for a much higher price.
So far, it has been a great addition to my kitchen!
My friends have other known brands and can’t believe the functionality and price of this thing.
What I disliked? This was on sale at Canadian tire cheaper...this exact product
