This book is adapted from the syllabus for Professional Instrument Courses. PIC trains pilots for their instrument rating in 10 days, in part due to their excellent teaching aid/syllabus. This book not only covers all you need to learn how to fly on the instruments, it does it in a clear and simple manner. Numerous photos and illustrations clarify important concepts. In addition the newest technology like GPS is taught. If you are only want 1 book to help with your instrument training this is it.

Instrument flying explained in a way that is more easily understood than any other book ever written. Peter Dogan explains in half the words compared to any other text books. A must for the serious instrument & student pilot.

Well written, marginally dated - Dogan's book is a good common sense approach to instrument flying. His use of stories amplifies the perils and opportunity inherent in instrument flying. I was intrigued with his take on the use of VORs as his view agrees with Joe Campbell's.

I am a flight instructor, though I do not work for PIC. I do use this book, and encourage my students to use buy and read it. The straight-forward explanations are effective, and each chapter has a real-life story that illustrates the concept of the chapter. Each chapter also has a "To the CFII" section that is helpful to instrument students, student CFIIs, and active CFIIs alike.

Best practical "how to" book on instrument flying ever written! No other words are necessary. I used this book in 1987 when I trained for my own Instrument Rating, and as a CFII I require my students to own and read the book. I personally use and teach many of Dogan's instrument flying techniques.

This is a well written book, the best I know for actually telling a new instrument pilot what to do when preparing for an approach in an airplane. His approach to an arc approach was absolutely outstanding. This approach needs to be taken with the modern GPS boxes in a new book. Any authors out there?

I just finished my private pilot training. This is a good overview of instrument flying. It is obvious I will need to study books written with greater detail but as a way to get the big picture this book is good.
