My husband has been nagging me for roughly five or six years to get a wedge pillow both for my legs and my neck and shoulders. I have degenerative disk disease and three herniated disks in my lower back. Raising my knees above my hips reduces quite a bit of pressure from my ailing spine and feels lovely, and I like to sit up in bed and watch TV, do needlework, type, etc, so he wanted me to have one up by my head as well. I always just waved him off and told him I was fine as I limped to the chiropractor or chowed on painkillers and muscle relaxers. Fast forward to this year, I just had ACL reconstruction surgery on my left knee and have been having a very difficult time getting comfortable enough to sleep at night. One pillow under my leg wasn’t enough to raise it above my heart and stop the throbbing, two was too high and bent my knee too far for comfort, plus they’d randomly fall over and it was just a pain. So I bought this pillow for myself to save my husband being woken up by my pained sobs in the middle of the night.
I was a little wary of purchasing it because people were complaining that it wasn’t “floofing” enough after removing the packaging, but mine plumped up incredibly well. So I would say, if you have floofing issues, return and request a new one because it’s sooooo worth it. The pillow is not too hard or too squishy, and really the only thing I would change is it having another, more easily removed cover, like a regular pillow case. I may just sew one myself out of an old sheet or something, but the cover it comes with looks like a bit too much of a hassle to get on and off for it to not have a second cover.
I’ve only just now put my legs up on it, so I’ll update my review once I’ve slept on it a few nights, but from what I’m feeling right now, this is going to change everything!
I liked the description for this one (with it's memory foam top and extra-cushiony feel) and the reviews seemed to support what the seller claimed.
It has worked really well for me! I've used it downstairs on the chaise lounge section of our sectional couch (I removed the sofa's own back cushion, and placed my wedge pillow right up against the back of the couch and settled right in) and it was REALLY comfortable. I was able to rest and recover and watch tv that way.
Also, each night, my partner would carry it upstairs for me and I put it against our bed's headboard for bedtime.
It has made laying down and getting back up SO much easier in my compromised condition. And I can confirm that the pillow is in fact super comfortable! It's just firm enough that it supports you when you lay back (so that your back isn't sinking into it and causing back pain), but it's still really cushiony and soft (so that it doesn't feel as though I'm laying on a hard surface).
The only downside of this sleeping arrangement for me is that I am NOT a back sleeper, so I'm so uncomfortable all night that insomnia has been a serious issue. But that's not the fault of the pillow at all - that's the fault of this crappy. situation I find myself in that has forced me to sleep in a position that does not work for me. The reason I bother even adding that part is to say, again, that despite how much I hate sleeping on my back and in an upright position all night, the pillow itself has been a lifesaver. Because whether I like it or not, that's the position I have to sleep in right now, and at least I have a really comfy pillow to do so with.
One more thing to address: I noticed, when I was reading reviews for this product, that several people mentioned that you don't quite stay all the way up on the pillow through the night. And I will echo what others have said - a difficult, frustrating issue is the sliding down through the night. I have to reposition and scoot myself up *multiple* times a night. BUT... Do I think that's the fault of the pillow? No. That sounds like a pretty logical gravity issue. Physics. 🙄 *shrug*
Overall, I got great use out of this pillow. I recommend it if you - for whatever reason - need or want to lay in a more upright position.
I am 5-11 and sleep on a twin XL bed. XL is same length as king. I have no problem with #3 above.
Additionally, it does work well upright for sitting in bed reading, which I do and can vouch for, TV watching (for those of you that do such things. No experience for me there, but should work well), etc.
I was very tied between this and a lower 7" pillow. I take no stars from this product for its 12" height. It is what it says it is. I may be ordering a 7" to give it a try. All in all, lower and softer may be better for some. Just keep in mind this pillow is big, high (12") and extremely firm. If that's what you're looking for, it will fit the bill perfectly.
