From the Manufacturer
With four cores, you'll experience outstanding performance and better efficiency.
The Core 2 Quad Q9650 lets you enjoy a smooth and high-quality multimedia experience.
Intel's Intelligent Power Capability ensures optimal energy efficiency.
Starting with Intel's revolutionary new high-efficiency, high-performance 45nm processor technology, Intel engineers decided to go one step farther in the performance department. By including 12 MB of shared L2 cache and a front side bus speed of 1333 MHz, the Q9650 processor pushes the technological innovation envelope farther than ever before.
For users, this means the latest and most advanced software applications can open and run faster with superior responsiveness. When used with the latest multimedia software and next-generation games, dropped frames, long waiting times, and stuttering performance are things of the past.
New Technologies Provide Higher Performance and Better Energy Efficiency
By using hafnium, a naturally occurring element, Intel engineers were able to shrink the size of new Intel processors and pack more computing technology into less space. The processor also features Intel's Intelligent Power Capability, which allows it to turn off parts of itself when it isn't in use. The result is improved performance with less energy wastage and a reduction of heat and noise.
Intel has packed the Core 2 Quad Q9650 with cutting-edge technologies for better performance. Wide Dynamic Execution allows the processor to do more tasks simultaneously by enabling the delivery of more instructions per clock cycle. Intel's Advanced Smart Cache technology improves performance by physically placing data closer to the processing cores. And Smart Memory Access, which increases available data bandwidth, means you'll experience less slowdown while multi-tasking, so you can get more done.
Multimedia Acceleration for Faster Content Creation
If you are editing HD video, manipulating professional-grade photos, or working with music, the Q9650 will let your computer keep up with your imagination. The processor features Intel's Advanced Digital Media Boost for accelerating performance of a wide range of applications including video, gaming, speech and image, and photo processing among others. Additionally, Intel's HD Boost technology further improves the performance of SSE4-optimized applications, such as video editing and encoding in high definition.
Fewer Multi-tasking Slowdowns
With four processing cores, you'll be able to juggle more projects and more applications without experiencing the slowdown that you typically see with traditional single-core processors. Processing tasks are split up and distributed to the four different cores so the Q9650 doesn't get bogged down.
Get a Leg Up on the Latest Games
Next-generation gaming is more than just pretty environments and smooth motion. Behind the incredible visual realism of waterfalls or the unlucky ricochet of a bullet are intense, high-speed calculations of asset streaming, terrain generation, 3D rendering, and physics effects. When running select next-generation games, each of the cores in the Q9650 can be dedicated to each of these individual processes, resulting in smoother, more lifelike graphics and further blurring the line between virtual and reality.
The Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 is backed by a three-year warranty.

In my case I had an ageing dual core that wasn't performing to well on the latest games but I didn't want to buy a new mother board + ram + c.p.u. and go through the hassle of reinstalling two versions of windows plus all my programs. So I just popped this in and was away running in 5 mins. All games run great now and was easy to overclock from standard 3 Ghz to 3.6 Ghz on standard cooler.
So highly reconmended for an upgrade but not at all for a new system.
Although the chip is rather expensive for a legacy tech, it was a economical choice because we didn't have to upgrade our MB and DDR2 ram by going with the i7 (1366) platform.
If you have a existing 775 setup and want to give it a boost, i highly recommend picking up one of these chips when they are still available.
This processor is remarkable mainle of the fact that is has an unlocked multiplier. What does this mean? Well, whereas a "locked" processor can only go up to its own base multiplier speed (bus speed x processor multiplier) on its own by default configuration, an "unlocked" processor is able to go beyound by raising its own multiplier (turbo speed). This is done automatically by raising its owncore voltage, but within constraints (not overclocking). To go beyond the turbospeed, depending on your motherboards processor control interface, I have instantaneously achieved 4.1mhz speed with just the click of one button using Asus AISuite II with no apparent rise in temp using only air cooling (Coolermaster HAF-X and Coolermaster V-6 CPU Cooler). Beyound that speed would be almost as easy without having to go into Bios but I find no need even to go beyond the standard turbospeed of 3.7.mhz. This processor shows up as 12 separate processors under system info. I am running in background Diskeeper Pro, Tuneup Utilities, Vipre, AiSuite II, EVGA Precision X, Nvidia settings, Auzentech X-fi Forte 7.1 and play ALL games at maximum extreme settings all above 60fps min (EVGA GTX 480 Superclocked SLI). Motherboard is the Asus Rampage III Black Edition. I am aware that for same price I could have had a similar mb with a cpu of similar speed using I-7 second edition but for my own reasoning and putposed I opted for this, having no regrets whatsoever. The CPU cooler that comes with this item is quite impressive and nothing like the other standard Intel coolers.Read more ›
The cost here is near of: 3200 Bs F
And the change of Dollar is: 2.15 Bs F per Dollar!!
Apologize me of the bad use of the english...
Bye and Thanks!!
I bought this processor to "top out" my EVGA 780 SLI MB. I have already maxed the memory and run a Gigabyte GTX 760 for video. I normally don't expect additional FPS in games from a modest CPU upgrade but was pleasantly surprised with an approx 15% improvement across most games.
The CPU runs stable, install was easy and I've had no issues.
CPU does seem to run a little warmer than previous CPU's and I hesitate to call this "bad" simply because it's a little warm. I am using an OCZ Vendetta 2 for CPU cooling and avg core temps run around 40 - 45 deg C with light load and 55 - 60 while gaming. I've noticed no instability, but have not tried to overclock.
Overall - good CPU, works as advertised and the price was reasonable - kept me from spending significantly more to build a completely new rig . . . until next year.
In technology years, my old Shuttle SG33G5M system, which I built in 2007, is a dinosaur. Even so, I wasn't ready to kick it to the curb, so I decided to upgrade with a new CPU, more memory, an SSD, and a new fan to replace the original that was getting a bit noisy. The result was nothing short of amazing. Booting the system before the upgrade took 2+ minutes. Now it boots up and is ready for login in less than 10 seconds. Large applications, like Camtasia 8, load in less than 2-3 seconds instead 20 to 30 seconds. In other words, the system is down right snappy and a joy to use. It feels more like a new i5 based desktop than the 8 year old, single core, 2 GHz machine it started life as.
