A great collection of essays from the Current Affairs editor. A great collection, very useful as an introduction to the Left for more “centrist” liberal-types. Nathan Roninson is startlingly intelligent and his writing cuts deep. He’s funny, eloquent, and the stark moral clarity of his work is a refreshing change from most political opinion pieces.
If I have one complaint, it’s that the book isn’t well divided. They attempted to group the essays by theme, but it doesn’t quite work out for long-session reading. I recommend buying this, of course, but you shouldn’t read it cover to cover like I did. Let it simmer and read it bit by bit.

If you consider yourself anywhere on the spectrum of left-wing politics, and you don't read Nathan Robinson or his magazine Current Affairs, you're a darn goon!

Incisive essays by one of our generation's greatest
Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2018
Robinson is perhaps my favorite contemporary essayist. His work covers timely and relevant topics, and provides excellent, logically sound arguments from a socialist perspective, while maintaining a degree of accessibility and humor that is easy to recommend or cite in debate or discussion. His writing provides a very refreshing reprieve from the wasteland of NYT op-eds and dense academic theory, and can present socialistic theory and philosophy in a manner that even your most reactionary uncle may find persuasive. Truly Interesting Times.

Nathan J. Robinson is an essayist without contemporary parallel. He presents well-reasoned and unconventional ideas with characteristic accessibility and thoroughness.
