To clarify, this is just as narrow as the stock rift facial interface, and made of hard plastic, the thinner material and cloth cover are what make the difference.
The marks left on my face are reduced from hard creases to just soft red marks. The FOV increases thanks to my eyes being closer to the lenses. I can now just barely see the edges of the screens that was cut off before, so I get more pixels.
Changing the depth will also affect the fresnel lense glow, it doesn't get rid of it, for me the glow shifts out more to the peripheral vision.
The cloth is cooler and more breathable than the foam but the cushion is more firm.
The VR cover, and thin pad are the combo I use. Make sure you get the cover in place correctly so it doesn't trigger the proximity sensor.
My previous review is below:
The standard rift facial interface was too narrow. The thinner pads on this one let me have a wider field of view. I have no idea exactly how much, but it is a noticable difference.
Removing and reattaching the padding is tricky because it's hard to center it on the facial interface "velcro". I wish it had a center mark on it.
But the cushion feels great, it feels a little sticky because it's leather but feels like a pillow on your face instead of the scratchy/stingy foam.
I used to get deep lines outlined in red around my eyes. Properly fitted the Rift had always been too loose on my face and the sweet spot too low. I always had to pull the side straps tighter and tilt it down a notch to see the sweet spot--I guess my forehead doesn't stick out enough compared to others. Now with the VR Cover thin pads, the worst I get is a slight indentation on my cheeks, no marks on my forehead anymore. This padding has more grip so I don't have to keep the headset so tightly strapped anymore.
The fabric cover I just tossed aside, no need for it, it's only me using it. I'll give it a try later, but I'm loving it so far!
