Top customer reviews
I primarily use my two stands during wedding receptions to hold wireless off-camera flashes. For that function they work perfectly. I typically set them up at the beginning of the reception topped with whatever flash and flash modifier combo I'm using and then they're easy to grab in a pinch. I have a Photoflex Light and Umbrella Shoe Mount Clamp on both stands and they pretty much are bonded for life. I have never had a reason to separate the two. The stand's full extension height of 8'7" is glorious and allows me to blast the dance floor from on high and get some truly edgy shots when I'm shooting towards the two stands spaced 120°-90° apart.
Why not 5 stars? Well with any reduction in price, sacrifices must be made in material choice. Both stands are truly air-damped at first and remained so until I took them into the world of wedding photography. After enough dings and bumps in moments of frantic set-up, the seals in both my stands were compromised and the air-damped feature disappeared. I don't feel that I'm overly hard on my gear so the fact that after relatively minor use this key safety feature is practically gone was a bit upsetting.
Regardless, I would highly recommend getting these stands. I don't plan on getting much more into the world of flash-stands (at least not for a while) so I'm fine to stay at this level of workmanship and make due with the few cons. I'd much rather insure my primary equipment is of higher quality (camera, lenses) than try to spend top dollar on every aspect of my arsenal.
