This is a good product. My only complaint about it is the mounting bar. The bar is thin and wobbles, for lack of a better word, and it probably won't break but it seems that with little effort the flashes work loose. I added some compression washers and that seemed to resolve the issue. I also use this to mount a pair of CN-160 LED's on it but in order to get them to fit I had to remove the flash shoe mounts and added a pair of mending plates to expand the bar. So far it works ok however it has to be handle carefully or they shift. I'll probably will have to come up with another scheme shortly. On the plus side , it's all metal, even the flash shoes which are excellent. Regardless of how I use it is very useful to me.
Its a great idea. When it works. The problem is the way the clamp works is really weak. Its far to easy to think you have the foot tightened down and then, when you're $600 flash hits the ground, you realize it was tight, but not against the foot of the flash!
It's a great idea and when it works it's wonderful. the problem is that its unreliable and way too easy to have your flash go flying off when you thought it was secure.
The design really needs to be redone. It is way too hard to try and see if you really locked it down completely in a dark reception hall or anywhere for that matter.. you need something that works, works well, and works quickly. This does none of those things.
This bracket is a great deal because it includes two cold shoes; most others require you to pay extra or buy the shoes separately. The hardware isn't Manfrotto-quality but it's solid enough and holds my flashes in place.
Handy tip: When firing flashes together, you can usually get away with only one cable or radio trigger. The optical trigger on the second flash will fire when it sees the light from the first flash. This works especially well if they're firing into an umbrella or softbox, but even bare the flashes will usually trigger each other from this close.
Not as sturdy as I would have hoped. THe hex bolts holding the flashes won't hold and I have to tighten it every few days. The T bar is also made of low quality and bends easily. It's ok for the money, but I would like to see one built a bit better for the price.
This is an okay holder. The bar bends easily and the flash mounts move on the bar. Have to keep tightening up the hold down bolt. I purchased the "ePhoto H6704 Triple Hotshoe Mount Flash Bracket 3-Way with Umbrella holder" and found that to be a much better flash holder.
This is the way I see it. The metal is not strong enough to keep the weight of the units without bending slightly. This makes me very insecure. Not to say they need to improve the security of the cold shoe. I'm always superparanoid. I'ts ok but I'm considering other options.
I read a couple of reviews that complained about the thin metal mounting crossbar, but for holding two speedlights, I can't imagine needing anything stronger. I made a couple of modifications to it and was able to mount two LumoPro 180s using the side 1/4" sockets. nice and compact, plenty strong.
I use this on every shoot where I have a spare flash. If it's not obvious; the benefits of this bracket are either more power or (for most of my applications) lowering the power of each strobe and having them recycle faster. So to clarify: if your shot looks good with a flash at 1/4 power, you can use two flashes each set at 1/8 power and get the same light output.
It's also very robust, I would say it's just a few notches down from the (single socket) Manfrotto 026 Lite Tite Swivel + Umbrella Adaptor
