Wow! My heart! I am so ecstatic that Tara got a story! Tara is the one in the group with no special abilities. She always feels like a liability. Interlude starts when Zanya and the others are on their mission to retrieve the stone from Sarian. Marzena opened a door in her mind so that they could locate Sarian but along with that have been some repercussions. She has her own demons to deal with from being abused as a child but this has opened the door for her to remember the torture she endured while she was being held by Sarian. She is doing her best to not be a burden and enjoy her time with Peter but she just keeps getting worse. And Peter! He is such a lover! All he wants is for Tara to love him back but she keeps questioning her mortality and pushes him away. She ventures out on her own to get some air but is approached by a drug dealer that has been trafficking girls. The worst part about it is that she almost ends up being a statistic. She forms an unlikely alliance with Malachi, whose mysteriousness is enough to make anyone question his motives and trustworthiness. The author makes Tara so easy to relate to. Tara is dealing with her own past and personal issues, constantly trying feel of some worth but all the same is lost. Most of us can relate with Tara in some way or another.

“All that awaited her was terror and death.”

“Her heart shattered, opening a deep wound in a place she didn’t know existed. A place that was tender and fragile. A tiny place left untainted with regret, now in ruins.”

Super excited that we are able to get a glance into what Tara is facing as she is a huge character for this story. It gives so much more background to the story.

This was such a great book! The second book in this series follows Tara, and we get to things from her perspective. We see her struggle with her past and come to terms with things in her heart.

What I liked
I really liked being able to see Tara conntribute more to the cause. She has been feeling so useless because she doesn't have any powers like the rest of her friends, and I think that it was weighing on her. I do like Tara's character much better than the main character of the series, Zanya. Seeing things from Tara's point of view was refreshing.

I very much enjoyed seeing a different part of the story. In the first book you get to see the main issue involving Zanya and her friends, and in this book you get a loot at offshoots of the story. It really brings things together with a better understanding of what is going on. It provides more about the bigger picture of what they are facing.

In this book we get to see Tara's decline, and I think that is is significant to the story. We see how she struggles with her nightmares, her past, and her hope for a relationship with Peter. Her character development is really expanded and goes so much deeper than the first book. Tara becomes so much more complex in this book and it shines a light on the kind of person she really is. It's enlightening and beautiful.

What I didn't like
While I liked seeing things from Tara's point of view, I couldn't help but wonder what was going on with Zanya and Arwan. I think that the book would have been much better if it had been written from both sides of the story including both Tara's journey and also Zanya's journey.

The book was quite short. It felt more like a novella to me.

- SERIES REVIEW OF BOOKS 1-3: 5 STARS OVERALL -
Have you ever come across a book or series where there's so much to say and yet, you can't express your feelings?? That's me right now with Mayan Blood, Interlude, and Lights of Aurora by Theresa DaLayne. These books are FANTASTIC, but they are ones where you HAVE to read to understand just how epic they are. There's magic, action, romance, and tons of page-turning scenes where I felt I could not get enough of these characters.

Theresa DaLayne knows how to write books that will hook readers from the very beginning. Her writing is smooth and flows effortlessly. I had no problem whatsoever following the plot lines from book to book. Her character development was top-notch! You grow alongside the characters as they face their different, action-packed journeys. Mayan Blood was a phenomenal start to the series and the books only got better and better. While the series starts off in the YA age group, it certainly doesn't stay there, so please don't let that stop you from checking out these books if you don't normally read YA. I have not had a chance to read book 4, Anarchy, but trust me when I say, I will be doing that SOON. Go one-click!!

*Copy gifted to me in exchange for an honest review* Tara is haunted by the memories from being tortured by Sarian, the evil underworld general. She’s afraid to admit that she isn’t strong enough to endure the dreams because she’s the only one without special abilities. Her health declining from lack of sleep and appetite, it’s only a matter of time before things get really bad. She deliberately sabotages her relationship to the only man she will ever love, delusional enough to think he deserves better. Meeting Malachi, she has the opportunity to help the group fight Sarian, but to do that she must become bait in a trafficking ring to ferret out the kingpin working for the power hungry general. Will she be strong enough to help her friends and the other women doomed to a horrible fate? Will her friends forgive her for running off to do this on her own? Can she trust her new acquaintance? I greatly enjoyed this installment of a YA Paranormal Romance. The action and suspense had me losing sleep, I just could not put it down. Please do yourself a favor and read this series. It’s so very unique and imaginative, the author has intrigued and captivated me. I can’t wait for the next in series!
