Internet Laws is a fabulous resource written in accessible language and full of pertinent examples for those of us doing business on the Internet. While Mr. Young naturally makes the disclaimer that his book cannot replace legal advice, he's provided a wealth of solid, helpful information here. If you want to feel confident about your online business endeavors, you need this book.
Internet Laws has earned a place of honor (and will stay within easy reach) on my resource shelf, between the style guides and the motivational books!
Unlike many lawyers who write books for a general business audience, Mike Young should be praised for keeping the writing simple and easy to follow. He avoids unnecessary legalese and peppers the text with practical examples to illustrate his concepts.
The book covers a wide range of topics likely to be encountered by small business owners and entreprenuers operating on the Internet. While not getting into extreme depth on any one topic, Young offers practical advice for staying out of trouble online.
This book certainly won't teach you how to defend yourself in court, but you might learn how to avoid ending up there in the first place. And that's real value here for most readers--learning how to stay out of trouble by raising your awareness of potential liabilities.
The author obviously believes that it's better to be informed about potential consequences than remain ignorant and vulnerable, especially when your business, your finances, your privacy and even your personal freedom may be at stake. As you read through the book, you'll notice that Attorney Young maintains a conservative approach to online activity and usually errs on the side of caution.
Because Young writes as an attorney and speaks from his position as advocate for the reader, his tone can sometimes seem a bit paranoid and alarmist. This not necessarily a criticism of Young. He cites numerous examples of the potential consequences of risky online practices, especially where federal and state laws are concerned.Read more ›
Waste of my $15.
If you are serious about running an online business, this is a book you should read.
My name is Mark Call and I am an Internet Marketing Coach, Speaker and Author.
This is a MUST read for ANYONE that is doing business on-line.
Mike explains the risk/reward in every chapter in easy to understand "plain" language!
He did not write this in Fancy LEGAL terms and breaks EVERYTHING down for you!
I will be "REQUIRING" all of my students to have and READ a copy of this!
This, to me ... id the BLUEPRINT - before you put anything on-line!
If you already have a website ... you NEED this!
I cannot say in WORDS how this has changed the way I will do business now and in the future!
The best part is ... it is EASY to implement in a matter of days!
Thank You Mike Young, this is a breath of fresh air!

Raise questions and provided answers I would have never considered.
A trustworthy and simple approach with the "Pros & Cons" easily identified. A must read before diving into the waters of Internet E-Business. Even if you intend to get a lawyer it establishes the agenda you need to discuss saving time and probably money.
Mike Young as an Internet lawyer understands the importance of online marketing as part of marketing for small business owners. Not everyone can afford the services of an Internet attorney.
This book may not replace the services of an attorney, but it does offer easy to understand guidelines to keep the business owner and his business out of legal troubles (if you choose to follow the suggestions.) The book is a great reference about the details you need to understand while promoting online.
